Mableson has a calm nature with ball in hard and is rarely ever panicked, happy to hold up play to make the right decision. Though given she’s not explosive as such it can lead to being run-down or caught, the West Adelaide top-ager is strong in the core to stand up in tackles and draw an opponent before finding a free player. Charlton had the most disposals, clearances and tackles in the match, which gave an insight into her impact around the ball. She is not necessarily an aerial player, but clunked a couple of strong grabs under duress, with the 162cm prospect notching up a contested mark to her name. Ever consistent, Charlton just hardly makes a mistake and is able to ensure the ball remains in South Australian hands.

#12 Julia Faulkner (Woodville-West Torrens)
Forward/Defender | 164cm | 06/05/2008

Stats: 15 disposals, 4 marks, 8 tackles, 1 clearance, 2 inside 50s, 1 behind

Faulkner spent time up both ends, with the Eagles top-ager gaining some extra experience as a defender. Her competitive attitude and never-say-die willingness when in a contest naturally adapts to the role, and she was once again fierce at ground level. Like Charlton, Faulkner is not a known aerialist, but she positioned herself well and took a number of good marks often a kick behind play intercepting the ball. Had a shot on goal from long-range that bounced the wrong side, but aside from when she was caught for speed, did well all over the ground.

#14 Lani Cocks (Norwood)
Midfielder/Forward | 162cm | 15/09/2009

Stats: 23 disposals, 1 mark, 5 tackles, 3 clearances, 3 inside 50s, 3 rebound 50s

Almost had the highlight of the championships with a five-bounce run from half-back to half-forward before being mowed down by Moana out of nowhere. You could see that burned deeply because her defensive intensity went up another notch and she was particularly keen to get one back on her opponent. She spent time forward as well as in the midfield and has no trouble finding the ball. Though she can tend to do a bit too much with it at times, what she does with ball in hand can break open games.

#15 Lucy Moore (Woodville-West Torrens)
Defender/Midfielder | 165cm | 30/04/2008

Stats: 26 disposals, 1 mark, 7 tackles, 5 clearances, 2 inside 50s, 4 rebound 50s

Arguably her best game of the championships and she’s been pretty handy throughout. Her kicking can still be a little hit and miss, but she is a terrific defensive player and strong at ground level as well as competitive in the air. Starting in defence was a little bit of a surprise, but she still found plenty of it, and then moved on-ball and had 11 disposals in the second quarter. She knows her way around a stoppage and Moore’s clean hands in traffic are so pure.

#17 Lily Whiteman (Sturt)
Wing | 164cm | 14/05/2009

Stats: 10 disposals, 2 marks, 1 tackle, 1 clearance, 4 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s, 1 behind

Forget the amount of touches, Whiteman’s impact stretches beyond her raw numbers. When she wins the ball she brings a lot of metres gained with it, boasting a fast first few steps and a long, driving kick forward.
