He eventually rotated forward where Boyden George<\/strong> awaited him for a tricky matchup. After an eye poke halted his progress in term two, the lively talent worked back into the game with his tackling intent and ability to connect the ground. His creative kicking unselfishly brought others into the play closer to goal, although he went without one himself in a rare instance this season. He led the home-and-away goalkicking charts with 40 in 12 games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n #7 <\/strong>Angus Tippett<\/a> Stats: <\/strong>30 disposals, 9 marks, 5 clearances, 1 goal<\/p>\n\n\n\n Leading all comers in a rampant display around the ground, Tippett had no trouble getting in on the play. The big-bodied midfielder spread hard to accumulate in all parts of Preston City Oval, even drifting forward for a mark and goal in the opening term. He was also able to use his size and strength to break open packs, but lacked the pace and polish at times to do real damage under pressure. Still, he racked up possessions at will as the Jets looked to utilised controlled, high-volume ball movement in their own half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n #9 <\/strong>Lachlan Hicks<\/a> Stats: <\/strong>26 disposals, 9 marks, 5 tackles<\/p>\n\n\n\n As he has been all season, Hicks was among Western\u2019s leading possession winners and lifted in an impressive third term. Much of his work was done by hand, dishing out 17 handballs to play a facilitating role in the Jets\u2019 engine room. He proved typically capable of marking around the ground, working hard to find space in transition and putting his body on the line when required. His aerial ability is an elite trait for a player his size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n #10 <\/strong>Griffin Barker<\/a> Stats: <\/strong>16 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles, 3 clearances<\/p>\n\n\n\n On a day where many of Western’s top players struggled to hurt the opposition, Barker was arguably the best at doing exactly that. He started out on the wing but was quickly thrown into the engine room where he got to work with his ability to extract possession. The explosive bottom-ager caught the eye with several bursts of speed, brushing off would-be tacklers as he barrelled his way out of congestion and surged the ball forward. On the end of those forays were impressively measured decisions, with Barker capable of lowering his eyes to hit kicks or dishing off for others to score. His blend of competitiveness and skill was outstanding. No wonder Tassie is watching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n #17 <\/strong>Billy Wigmore<\/a> Stats: <\/strong>21 disposals, 10 marks, 4 rebound 50s, 1 goal<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wigmore\u2019s one-wood is outrageously good and held him in good stead on Sunday \u2013 that being his intercept marking. Nearly all of the defender\u2019s 10 grabs came off Oakleigh kicks, as he positioned expertly behind the ball and backed himself to beat all comers aerially. Wigmore\u2019s vice-like hands and playreading were difficult to surpass and his first instinct was always to intercept. He became a little more daring with ball in hand as the game progressed and was eventually swung forward, where he snagged a goal over the back in term four. Perhaps the move could have come sooner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n #24 <\/strong>Noah McMenamin<\/a> Stats: <\/strong>12 disposals, 7 marks, 4 inside 50s, 1 goal<\/p>\n\n\n\n Taking on a role up forward, McMenamin provided great connectivity as Western looked to move the ball inside 50. He presented well up the line, using his mobility and clean hands to become a reliable marking target. The over-ager\u2019s foot skills were just as assured as he consistently supplied teammates ahead of the ball. Having been starved of opportunities at times, he was shifted to defence in place of Wigmore and chimed in with a couple of late intercepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n #28 <\/strong>Mac Dullard<\/a> Stats: <\/strong>16 disposals, 4 marks, 26 hitouts, 6 clearances<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another of Western’s promising bottom-agers, Dullard played undersized as Western’s primary ruck. The mobile tall moved fluently around the ground, working into spaces both ahead of and behind the ball after competing in the ruck. He did well to win the hitout count with a slight height deficit, using his athletic leap at the centre ball-ups and following up nicely at ground level. Dullard has also found success as a key forward this year but looks like a capable dual-position prospect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n OAKLEIGH CHARGERS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n #6 <\/strong>Flynn Woolhouse<\/a> Stats: <\/strong>7 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was a relatively quiet outing for Woolhouse despite his side\u2019s success, although he eventually found opportunities late in the piece. Operating deep forward, the athletic tall showed good speed off the mark when leading and was able to gain separation from his direct opponent. He was also prepared to follow up with pressure acts and ended up with three scoring shots, proving an economical type who only needs a few opportunities to make an impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n #9 <\/strong>Harper McCullough<\/a> Stats: <\/strong>15 disposals, 5 marks, 4 inside 50s<\/p>\n\n\n\n Perhaps providing a window into how he may be used next year, McCullough spent the day as a small forward. He leant on his gut running ability to work up the ground while using his speed on the way back to goal. The bottom-ager also managed to impact at stoppage with his usual dogged determination to escape with ball in hand. McCullough wasn\u2019t shy of a word or niggle either, suiting the way he goes about his footy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n #11 <\/strong>Jai Leach<\/a> Stats: <\/strong>7 disposals, 4 tackles, 16 hitouts, 2 goals<\/p>\n\n\n\n Leach made an early impression on proceedings, booting two goals in the opening term to help set Oakleigh on the front foot. His speed and mobility were impressive at all of 198cm, able to present on the lead and recover the ground ball with vigour. Leach was also competitive in the ruck where his leap and aerial range took the eye, along with that nimble follow-up ability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n #20 <\/strong>Archie Fogarty<\/a> Stats: <\/strong>10 disposals, 5 marks, 1 goal<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fogarty asserted himself in the forwardline as one of Oakleigh\u2019s most viable targets ahead of the ball. He provided connectivity and wasn\u2019t afraid to fly for his marks, nor bite off targets by foot. His strong hands overhead helped deliver the opportunity for his lone goal in term two, and he had a couple more chances both over the mark and in open play, finishing with 1.2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n #32 <\/strong>Oliver Bond<\/a> Stats: <\/strong>13 disposals, 7 marks, 4 tackles, 4 rebound 50s<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bond has some elite traits as a tall defender and can impact games with his intercept marking. He did so on Sunday, positioning well behind the ball and reading the play before acting on his instincts to cut the ball off. Bond provided an aerial contest but was equally prepared to mop up and repel when the ball hit the deck, showing great mobility and skill for a tall player. He shapes as a prospect who could push himself into the top-end next year should he deliver on the promise shown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
