He hunted the ball at ground level and showed good poise when delivering it off either foot, doing much of his work facing forward. The bottom-ager’s ability to drive his legs and break clear of congestion came to the fore in the final term where he began to get his hands on the ball through the middle before launching it inside 50 on the fly.

#17 Angus Pringle
Midfielder | 181cm | 24/02/2008

Stats: 27 disposals, 5 marks, 5 tackles, 8 clearances

Pringle had claims on being the Bulldogs’ best and most consistent player on Saturday, holding up his end of the bargain in midfield. The no-frills ball winner was clean at the coalface, both extracting and distributing the ball effectively. He hardly fumbled throughout the day and was able to find possessions on the outside, although can continue to work on becoming more damaging on his favoured left foot. His inside work allowed the lines of Marrone to shine.

#18 Jake Eime
Defender/Wing | 182cm | 29/07/2008

Stats: 17 disposals, 3 marks, 3 inside 50s

One of the most destructive players afield at his best, Eime’s transitional running set him apart despite the team result. He pounced on turnovers, kickstarting counterattacks with his raw leg speed and daring rebound runs. The top-ager was deadly with open grass ahead of him, breezing past opponents and biting off kicks others wouldn’t dare to. Those kinds of instincts, along with glimpses of his competitiveness, are exactly why he is rated so highly. He matched up on Ben Copping across half-back and played him relatively loosely before a late move up to the wing.

#29 Jack Gordon
Midfielder/Defender | 185cm | 05/01/2008

Stats: 13 disposals, 5 marks, 1 goal

It was a relatively low-volume game from Gordon, who returned to the Under 18 level on the back of two League appearances. He got to show some of his strengths around the contest, proving robust over the ground ball and capable of extracting it cleanly. Gordon perhaps lacked the explosive pace to be fully damaging out of the packs, but was able to find more space as the game wore on, picking up uncontested marks. He ended up taking the Patterson matchup with a move to defence and was strong in one-on-one duels. His best moment was a classy running goal in the third term.

#33 Billy Nicholls
Defender | 190cm | 10/02/2009

Stats: 20 disposals, 2 marks, 4 rebound 50s

Nicholls certainly had his hands full in a besieged Centrals defence, but did all he could to repel the frequent danger. He provided a terrific focal point inside 50, displaying his athleticism with spring-heeled leaps and by gaining separation on the lead. The raw bottom-ager dropped a couple of straightforward marks and sprayed some of his kicks, but also rose for several impressive aerial grabs and slotted goals in the first and final quarters. He briefly rotated through the ruck and certainly has the tools to be an exciting tall forward, albeit with a bit of size to add to his frame.

Glenelg’s Gabe Patterson is chased by state teammate Jake Eime | Image Credit: Glenelg FC

GLENELG:

#2 Gabriel Patterson
Forward/Midfielder | 184cm | 26/03/2008

Stats: 27 disposals, 7 marks, 5 clearances, 2 goals

Patterson set the tone for Glenelg’s victory with an electric opening quarter.
