FOR THE second week running, minor premiers Northern Knights have suffered defeat via the final kick of the game to be bundled out of the Talent League flag race in straight sets. This time out, Sandringham Dragons star Albert MacGowan<\/a> sunk a clutch set shot right on the final siren to clinch a thrilling victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Knights led for most of the day at Preston City Oval in what was a tense, low-scoring tussle. Both sides shared the run of play at the scoring end without being overly clinical, leaving the door ajar for the dramatic finish that ensued. MacGowan won a holding the ball free kick to have the decisive say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plenty of mouth-watering matchups were scattered across the field, most notably in Northern’s forwardline where the Knights’ talls battled against Sandringham’s game key defenders. The duel between Vic Metro teammates Tyson Bradley<\/a> and Sam Gayfer<\/a> was arguably the best of the lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result means Sandringham remains on track for a fifth-straight Grand Final berth, having won three of the last four premierships. The Dragons will go on to face Gippsland Power in Sunday’s Preliminary Final – just like last year – likely without leading prospects Arki Butler<\/strong> and Gus Teixeira <\/strong>once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
