Always covering plenty of ground, Godfrey was one of the better Chargers in the match, impacting across each third of the ground, particularly doing well with holding her line a kick behind the ball. One of her more effective and damaging games by foot, Godfrey retained possession consistently, while also looking to run-and-dun where possible. Took a few nice marks in space to keep speed on the ball as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fierce competitor around the stoppages, Mazzei set up her side’s first goal after a smart intercept in the forward 50 and then hit up Martin to force a free to her teammate and subsequent goal. She threw herself at everything and was quick and clean under pressure, finishing with 13 contested possessions amongst her eight disposals and a team-high five hardball gets. Primed to be one to watch at the National Draft Combine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
#13<\/strong> Zoe Curry<\/a>

The skipper worked hard throughout the match, and it was more about her work outside the contest than anything else. Curry still found her fair share of ball at the coalface, but she oven worked hard into space and either cleared the danger or pumped the ball into dangerous positions forward of centre. Always gives it a crack and is hard to bring down in a tackle. Refining the final execution the next step, but a readymade talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While on paper four behinds does not look great when you lose by five goals, there was nothing easy for Bown who arguably was Oakleigh’s best on the day. Her work rate on the lead and aerial threat was a worry for the Stingrays’ defence as the opposition focused on Martin instead. That allowed Bown to get into the leading lanes and outsize her opponent, with her second term of three straight behinds – two from long-range and another snap out of nothing that unluckily hit the post – agonisingly close to being a defining period. Bown remained active throughout the match, having another chance in the first, with a snap in the goalsquare smothered then a second shot missing to the near side. Went into the middle in the fourth quarter after the injury to Grace To<\/strong> and won a centre clearance and showed she could play in there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
#18<\/strong> Bailee Martin<\/a>

Danger signs were there early when Martin earned a free kick in a one-on-one with Mehrmann and converted from close range, but in the end, both players could walk away pleased with their performances. Martin only kicked the one goal, but she was involved in a lot, working up the ground, even playing higher later in the match, looking to place the ball into dangerous positions. Such a lovely field kick, Martin draws a crowd every time she goes near it, and she has the smarts to find the free player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
#30 <\/strong>Abi D’Intini<\/a>

Made the most of her limited chances with four scoring shots from seven disposals and could have had four with a bit more luck. Her first set shot missed before reading the crumb perfectly inside 50 to snap off her trusty left and slam home her first of the match. She was happy with her running goal in the fourth term despite the deficit, and either side of that in the second half D’Intini had a couple of opportunities but either fell short or just missed. Her smother from the Stingrays’ kickout almost yielded an incredible turnover goal in the fying moments but she couldn’t quite get boot to ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fierce competitor who just loves to get her hands dirty be it in the air or at ground level. She gets into the right spots and is not afraid to switch play, and while she had a quieter second half, was also defensively minded with the defence under siege. She won 10 of her 14 touches in the first half, providing offensive drive to the side, and laying a dozen tackles in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
#46<\/strong> Ruby Kaye<\/a>

The bottom-ager was a late inclusion to the Chargers’ squad this year and has not wasted a moment. While capable of playing that midfield role, she is also utilised as a high half-forward and connects the midfield and forwardlines. A lovely ball user by foot, she ran at 100 per cent – albeit from only four kicks – but has a nice balance between her offensive and defensive trademarks. One to watch for next season as she has a full preseason in a the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dandenong Stingrays’ ‘veteran’ in many ways, Reimers was playing game number 52 in Stingrays’ colours and she made sure her final one was a match to remember. Always a clean and tough midfielder willing to play any role, Reimers racked up 20 disposals, eight clearances and 11 tackles to be a formidable force around the stoppages. She was the driving force out of congestion, linking up well with the likes of Zach and Marsh. Missed a set shot after a free from the forward stoppage late in the second term, but gained reward for effort with a goal via a 50-metre penalty in the third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
#3<\/strong> Scarlett Marsh<\/a>

It was unbelievable that Marsh only had the 12 touches as it easily felt like 20-plus with the way she got involved across the ground. A big-game player and not a stretch to say the Stingrays might not be here without her contributions in the first two finals, Marsh won the first centre clearance out of the middle and was busy throughout the rest of the match. She just has defining moments, and her huge tackle on Curry in the second term as her opponent tried to exit the defensive 50 set up the pack mark and goal to Griffiths, before slamming home a ripping goal late in the half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ignore the statline, Mehrmann would have taken zero touches if it meant Martin did not get away from her, and after an early goal – pinged for an over the shoulder attempted spoil under pressure – she kept her goalless for the rest of the game. Having played a crucial role on Martin 12 months ago in the preliminary final win, before the Chargers forward got the better of her in the all-Victorian clash, Merhmann edged ahead in the big-game count with her one-on-one work, defensive pressure and consistent spoils and smothers on full display. She’s a no-nonsense defender who always looks to do the team things, nothing flashy, but an integral part of the side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
#9 <\/strong>Hannah Griffiths<\/a>

Griffiths at her best was summarised by her huge contested pack mark inside 50 during the second term and subsequent goal which started a run of four straight to end the half. She is still developing her consistency in that aerial space, but when her moment came, she took the best mark she has all season. At ground level she follows up with pressure which is important, and looms as a beacon for players to kick to in attack. Will be a fascinating watch at the State Draft Combine next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
#10<\/strong> Evi Irving<\/a>

Another valuable contributor for the Stingrays who has been rock solid all season and the grand final was no different. Irving is a fierce tackler who uses her stronger frame to advantage to wrestle the ball free in a contest, or apply excellent pressure. She competes well overhead and is just really solid across the board. Defensively had some big moments coming out of that back half and is not afraid to throw herself at the contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
#11 <\/strong>Lily Brittain<\/a>

The talented bottom-ager started in a blaze of glory, opening the match with a brilliant running goal, winning it and taking off before clearing the one-on-one deep and bouncing home. She had a few moments like that where she would break clear then dispose of it to release teammates as well. Almost looked like kicking another goal in the third term when winning multiple possessions in a chain along the way. Only the nine touches, but the bulk of them came with plenty of metres gained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the heat ramped up, Zach went to another level, really standing tall in a brilliant final term. She had eight disposals, three clearances and three tackles after being one of a number of Stingrays who had been jostling for the best-on leading to three quarter time. Zach separated herself with that last 20 minutes, which started after half-time that included a ripping goal getting to the right spot and then winning it off hands to deliver from close range. Going to another level, she won the first centre clearance of the fourth to set the tone, and her huge tackle in defence to stop an attack was enormous. A competitor until the end and crucial around the ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
#14<\/strong> Annie Clish<\/a>

A really promising bottom-ager who capped off her memorable year with two goals in the grand final. She finished with class during the second term to give her side the lead after bursting through at the fall of the ball, then bent a brilliant snap in the seventh minute of the fourth term to double her efforts. She almost kicked a third major that just fell short, but Shae Anderson<\/strong> capitalised to ensure the attempt was not wasted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
#23<\/strong> Eden Rowe<\/a>

Has slotted into the midfield rotation at the Stingrays well, allowing the likes of Marsh to roll back and Irving to permanently slot into that half-back position. She knows how to win a clearance, reading the ball well off hands and is a fierce tackler. She finds space, can breakaway and then pump the ball forward, while also getting back to help out behind the ball when required. A valuable contributor who will be handed the reins to the midfield in 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
