They had their foot on the accelerator from the opening bounce, with a 12 to two inside 50 count for the opening term. The only problem was that this good play came three quarters too late and the damage was already done.

Leave Ashmore free at your own peril

All afternoon, Ashmore was just left on her own far too regularly, and too much free run right across the ground. GWS needed to send someone like a Haneen Zreika or Chloe Dalton to her to quell her influence, and they did not, which really hurt them. GWS learnt a lesson the hard way that the rest of the competition should pay attention to – leave Kaitlyn Ashmore free and you will suffer the consequences.

GWS goalscoring woes continue

After GWS finally scored a goal in the third term, they broke a goalless run that stretched back to the second quarter of last week’s match. This is an area Alan McConnell and his team seriously need to work on.

Things could have been so much worse for GWS on the scoreboard

In what was already a disastrous afternoon for GWS, things could have been much worse for the GIANTS if North had in fact kicked straight. The Kangaroos finished with seven goals 12 for the match, which after the first two rounds is another sign that they are becoming more and more inaccurate as the season progresses.

GWS need to do a lot more work in their defence

For much of the afternoon, particularly in the first term, GWS struggled to find an avenue out of their defensive 50. The North zoning was just too strong and they were able to cut off just about every GWS kick out of the GIANT’s defensive 50.

NEXT WEEK

North has got Carlton at Ikon Park next Sunday, while the GIANTS return home for the first time this season, to face the Western Bulldogs.

Mentions

North Melbourne

GWS GIANTS

Haneen Zreika

Chloe Dalton

Kaitlyn Ashmore

Kangaroos vs GIANTS

A VERY dominant display from North Melbourne has seen the Roos dispose of the GWS GIANTS by 27 points and earn their second win of the season.
