UP at Metricon it was Gold Coast<\/a> who got the chocolates over the Geelong<\/a>. After a slow start, the Suns recovered to take the win and move within closer striking distance of the top six. The Suns won by 11 points, 7.7 (49) to 6.2 (38), booting six goals to four after quarter time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alison Drennan starred<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Alison Drennan<\/a> played a starring part in her side\u2019s win. Not only did she record 30 touches – the most of any Suns player ever – but she was also deadly around contests, which was great to watch for all Suns supporters.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A history breaking night for the Gold Coast<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Not only did Drennan record a lot of disposals, but in doing so she broke her own record for the most possessions by a Suns player in an AFLW game. That was not the only record broken on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Suns also recorded their highest score ever in their history, breaking the 7.4 (46) they scored back in Round 2. As well as all that, the win means that no matter what happens for the rest of the season, 2022 will be their most successful campaign ever in terms of wins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The battle of the top two picks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For the first time we saw a direct battle between last year\u2019s two top picks in Charlie Rowbottom<\/a> and Georgie Prespakis<\/a>. Prespakis was everywhere early, while Rowbottom came to the fore more as the game went on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regardless, both were among their side\u2019s best and proved why they were such high draft picks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will we see a Gold Coast finals run this year?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After a disastrous 2021 season, not many people had high expectations for Gold Coast this season. However, the Suns had other ideas, and have certainly proved a lot of people wrong this season. At the time of writing, they currently sit in seventh place, equal on wins with as high as fifth place Brisbane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the moment, their next three matches are against the Lions, Bulldogs and Saints. Although next week\u2019s match will be a challenge, they should win the next two and could be sitting very pretty with only a few weeks to go in the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where to now for the Cats?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After finally breaking through for their first win last week, the Cats winning momentum was halted by the Suns. This was another one of those games where they showed promise, yet couldn\u2019t convert on the scoreboard. Next week will be a good chance for Geelong to bounce back and get another win on the board, but time will tell if they do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEXT WEEK<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Gold Coast have to back up for a game on Thursday night against Brisbane that is now an extremely intriguing Q Clash. The Cats on the other hand only have to wait one extra day before their next match, when they take on the Bulldogs at Whitten Oval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
