2021/22 NBL: Stat Leaders – Rounds 1-10

THE 2021/22 season of the National Basketball League (NBL) is in full swing at the moment, with games taking place around the coutnry on nearly a nightly basis. There have been some cracking starts to the season both at a team and individual level, in what has been one of the most entertaining seasons of NBL in recent memory.

In this article we take a look at some of the leading performers in the key player statistical categories, with some ripping campaigns to date.

Points:

Bryce Cotton (Perth Wildcats)22.91
Mitch Creek (SEM Phoenix)21.8
Victor Law (Perth Wildcats)20.82
Jaylen Adams (Sydney Kings)20
Yannick Wetzell (New Zealand Breakers)17.45

The 2021/22 season has seen the Wildcats hold the luxury of having two of the top-three scorers on the court on a weekly basis. Cotton appears to be back to his best after missing the 2021 finals series. The motivation is evident and there is no one better at creating their own shot off the dribble, so there is no surprise that his name is at the top here. Law has proved an invaluable recruit for the same team, and the two have formed a truly damaging duo. Creek is producing one of his best seasons at NBL level, and his name is well and truly in the conversation for the MVP award come season’s end. Adams has really hit some form over recent weeks, and has been one of the big reasons for the resurgence of the Kings over the last few rounds.

Rebounds:

Stephen Zimmerman (Cairns Taipans)9.71
Jo Lual Acuil (Melbourne United)9.67
Cameron Bairstow (Adelaide 36ers)9.6
Xavier Cooks (Sydney Kings)9.54
Jarell Martin (Sydney Kings)9.54

Zimmerman has been extremely ruthless in chasing down the boards for the Taipans to start the season. The Cairns skipper always leads by example with his play, and his given his side countless more possessions with his willingness to fight tooth and nail for every loose ball in the air. Lual-Acuil is enjoying a stellar breakout season this year, and his improvement both scoring and rebounding has been immense (highlighted by a 29-point, 21-rebound outing in Round 10). Bairstow has only gotten better as the season has gone on and the Kings would be thrilled with the output of Cooks and Martin so far.

Assists:

Tahjere McCall (Cairns Taipans)6.5
Josh Magette (Tasmania JackJumpers)5.92
Jaylen Adams (Sydney Kings)5.75
Matthew Dellavedova (Melbourne United)5.58
Mitch McCarron (Adelaide 36ers)5.56

McCall has been terrific in leading the offence of the Taipans over recent weeks, truly stepping up in the absence of some key personnel. Obviously the sample size is smaller given they have played less games, but there is no denying his impact. Magette has slotted smoothly into the NBL and has led the JackJumpers to a spot in the top-four after 10 rounds. The inclusion of Adams in yet another category demonstrates the strength of his season to date, while Dellavedova has been massive in getting United into the position they are now.
