2021/22 WNBL Team of the Week: Round 2
IN this series each week, we take a look at the strongest performing players at each position to create the league’s Team of the Week.
Although there was one game cancelled due to a Covid case last round, there was still plenty of enthralling action to keep fans entertained.
Point Guard – Lauren Nicholson (Townsville)
In her side’s first outing of the campaign, Nicholson shot 24 points, and had six assists and four rebounds.
Shooting Guard – Tiffany Mitchell (Melbourne)
Mitchell clocked a healthy 22 points, five assists and nine rebounds as the Boomers upset the Flyers and got their season back on track with their first win on the board.
Centre – Abby Bishop (Southside)
Making her second team of the week in a row, Bishop was a solid contributor in her sides loss to the Boomers. She scored 15 points, had an assist and registered 11 rebounds.
Small Forward – Anneli Maley (Bendigo)
This round saw Bendigo finally end their 600+ day winless run, and Anneli Maley was a star in the win. She shot 18 points, had an assist and recorded a whopping 13 rebounds.
Power Forward – Cayla George (Melbourne)
In the upset loss to the Spirit, Cayla George was outstanding for the visitors. She shot 16 points, recorded three assists and a whopping 19 rebounds.
BENCH
The backup center spot goes to Townsville’s Zitina Aokuso. The Fire center managed to score a lot in her time on court against Adelaide. She managed to hit 13 points, and register an assist and a whopping 12 rebounds.
The backup shooting guard spot on the bench goes to Adelaide’s Stephanie Talbot. Against Townsville, she shot 19 points, and also managed to clock four assists and 12 rebounds.
The third spot on the bench is for the back up point guard role. This week that jumper goes to Melbourne’s Lindsay Allen. Against the Flyers, she clocked 22 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Player number four on the bench is the backup small forward Tess Madgen. The Boomer shot 20 points, and recorded an assist and four rebounds in her side’s upset win over the Flyers.
Finally, the last spot on the bench goes to Townsville’s Monique Billings. In her debut game for the club after joining the side, she shot fifteen points and recorded a whopping 13 rebounds in her side’s win over Adelaide.
