2021/22 WNBL Team of the Week: Round 8

IN our Round 8 Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) Team of the Week, Perth Lynx had three players, whilst Townsville Fire and Bendigo Spirit had two. Here is our Team of the Week from the most recent week of action.

Point Guard: Lauren Nicholson (Townsville)

Lauren Nicholson had two stellar games on the weekend, earning herself Player of the Round honours. Against Melbourne, she shot 22 points, had an assist and two rebounds. Facing Bendigo she shot 15 points, had three assists and two rebounds.

Shooting Guard – Marina Mabrey (Perth)

Mabrey had another stellar game on the weekend. Against Sydney, she shot a whopping 34 points, but also had four assists and six rebounds.

Small Forward – Anneli Maley (Bendigo)

Maley had a pair of great games over the weekend. Against the Capitals she shot 15 points, had an assist and recorded 11 rebounds. Facing Townsville though, she shot 18 points and had three assists, but also recorded a whopping 24 rebounds.

Power Forward – Cayla George (Melbourne)         

George is having a great season, and had another great performance on the weekend. Against the Fire, she shot 24 points, but also had three assists and a whopping 14 rebounds.

Centre – Lauren Scherf (Perth)

Lynx big Scherf shot 12 points against Sydney Uni, had an assist and a whopping 10 rebounds. Against the Capitals, she shot 15 points and had four assists, but also had a whopping 14 rebounds.

BENCH

One of this week’s backup Guard spots goes to Sydney Uni’s Lauren Mansfield. Taking on Perth, she shot 24 points, had a rebound and three assists. She also had 10 points, three assists and five rebounds against Adelaide. The other is Adelaide’s Stephanie Talbot. Taking on Sydney she shot 19 points, but also registered seven assists and nine rebounds.

One of this week’s backup forward roles goes to Bendigo’s Megan McKay. Clashing with Townsville, she registered 13 points, 13 rebounds and an assist. Meanwhile against the Capitals, she shot 11 points and had five rebounds.

The other is Perth’s Darcee Garbin. Against the Capitals, she shot a whopping 24 points, but also registered an assist and nine rebounds. Meanwhile against Sydney, she shot 13 points, had an assist and four rebounds.

The back up centre is Townsville’s Zitina Aokuso. Against Melbourne, she shot 17 points, had seven rebounds and one assist. Facing Bendigo, she shot 15 points, but had seven rebounds again and increased her assists tally to four.
