2025 NBA Draft Team Preview – Detroit Pistons

IT WILL be a quiet couple of nights for the Detroit Pistons at the 2025 NBA Draft, after the team traded away their first round pick and taking just the one selection into the intake in Chicago next month.
After years of trying to put it together and rebuilding through the draft one pick at a time, the Pistons finally made their move up the standings, reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2019 in a huge turning point for the franchise.
Behind the play of star point guard Cade Cunningham, the Pistons reached a record of 44 wins and 38 losses, which was good enough for the sixth seed out East. It was the best the team has looked in nearly a decade, with the young talent reaching new levels of development.
Unfortunately, Detroit was matched up against a loaded New York Knicks side, who is currently in the championship window, and the Pistons ended up falling in six games. However, with so much of the team still very young, the future is certainly bright.
Now, only loaded with a second round selection in the 2025 NBA Draft, the Pistons have the opportunity to find a gem late in the piece, with a loaded draft class making this task a lot easier.

Contracted Players
Tobias Harris, Isaiah Stewart, Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson (team option), Ron Holland, Jaden Ivey (team option), Simone Fontecchio, Jalen Duren (team option), Marcus Sasser (team option), Bobi Klintman
With an excellent young core of Cunningham, Thompson, Ivey and Duren, the Pistons have no shortage of young talent, and will just need to add complimentary pieces to the names above if they are to continue their move up the standings.
With just the one selection, their options will be limited, with the available prospects taken out of their hands and dependant on the moves made by other teams. However, if they can nail it, their second round pick could prove a low-cost way to add to an impressive roster.
Their selection will be likely picking the best available player, although there are some ideal positional additions that could improve the roster in the coming years.
Adding another playmaker to come off the bench and support Cunningham would be ideal, considering how much of the offensive load he carried at times. If they can find a point guard to run the bench unit, it would allow the former number-one pick to focus on his own scoring game, which is getting better by the year.
An option that could potentially be available at this point is Milos Uzan, who has shown his capability as a playmaker who can impact on both ends of the floor. He has also developed his jumpshot over the past 12 months, meaning he can play both guard positions and will be flexible within lineups.
Another potential option could be Tahaad Pettiford, although there is every chance he is off the board by the time the Pistons are on the clock. Another combo guard who can shoot the ball as well as orchestrate the offence, Pettiford makes up for his six-foot-one frame with tremendous creativity and versatility within lineups.
