2025 NBA Draft Team Preview – Sacramento Kings

WITH just the one selection in their arsenal for the 2025 NBA Draft in Chicago next week, the Sacramento Kings will be one of the quieter teams at the intake, but could make it count if they find a gem further down the order.

It was a changing season for the Sacramento Kings, who saw plenty of change with De’Aaron Fox traded and head coach Mike Brown fired as the team looked towards a different direction after not achieving the desired success.

The Kings did do enough to make the play-in tournament, and with the star trio of DeMar DeRozan, Zach Lavine and Domantas Sabonis fit and firing, were a chance to make the playoffs if they could perform. However, they were eliminated by the Dallas Mavericks, putting a disappointing final note on the season as a whole.

Now, the Kings will look to the draft, to try and add a quality young player given many of their core pieces are in the second half of their respective careers. Although they will not be picking until the second round, the depth of the class means they may still get a solid piece for the future.

The Kings will be looking to find a draft slider when they select with the 42nd overall pick at the 2025 NBA Draft, and could do exactly that given the unpredictability of this intake in particular given the amount of talent.

With the rest of the roster far from untouchable over the summer, the Kings could look extremely different heading into next season. Regardless of their roster during the 2025/26 season, Sacramento could always do with some added shot creation, and there are plenty of candidates on this front.

One option could be Kam Jones, who is certainly capable of generating some offence off the bench for the Kings in the coming years. Although he is limited in some facets of his game (athleticism and shooting in particular), he should still be able to find some baskets at the top level, and could be a handy addition for the future.

With crafty finishing and an improving playmaking ability over recent years as well, Jones could be an excellent fit next to some of the already productive players on Sacramento’s roster. Although he may not develop into a superstar, the fit is certainly there.

If they are to make some changes over the offseason, adding to the team’s wing stocks could be a viable option as well, and Kobe Sanders may fit the bill here. A three-level scorer who can also be productive as a secondary playmaker as well, Sanders has the tools to make it at the top level.

Although he is not the best athlete, his overall feel for the game and offensive skillset are massive positives in the modern game, and if he can use his six-foot-nine frame to his advantage, he may develop into a strong performer for the Kings.
