2025 NBA Draft Team Wrap – Phoenix Suns

PRIOR to the 2025 NBA Draft in Chicago last month, the Phoenix Suns made a blockbuster move to move into the top 10 of proceedings, and ended up walking away with three impressive prospects that will be crucial to success in the future.
After a disappointing campaign, the Suns made the highly-anticipated move of trading star forward Kevin Durant, and ended up receiving a top 10 selection in return, which was considerably valuable in a loaded draft class. It was the kind of move that signalled the end of an era in Phoenix, as the next generation of players came through via the draft.
Despite losing one of the best players in franchise history, the Suns ended up walking away with a trio of young stars, all of whom will play important roles as Phoenix moves into the next phase of its roster.

Khaman Maluach (pick 10), Rasheer Fleming (pick 31), Koby Brea (pick 41)
The Suns broke up their big three of Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal by trading the former and the latter expected to be bought out by the team in the coming weeks. However, the future is still bright after a successful haul last month.
Phoenix kicked things off by acquiring Duke Blue Devils big man Maluach with their first selection and the 10th overall. It was a strong way to start the Suns’ draft haul, given it was a position that they had struggled to fill since the departure of Deandre Ayton a few years ago.
Maluach was the best center in the draft class, and was a chance of even being picked up in the top five, but luckily for Phoenix, slid to 10th. He is an incredibly gifted defender, particularly in the paint, where he swats shots away from the rim and makes the opposition think twice before driving inside.
His versatility on that side of the ball is also impressive, given he boasts a remarkable amount of speed and agility for his size, while he is a consistent lob threat down the other end. Maluach will be a key piece for the Suns in the future and will dominate the paint in years to come.
Prior to proceedings kicking off on night two, the Suns made the trade to move up to the first selection of the second round. They did this because Fleming was still on the board, and he was simply too good of a value selection to pass up.
The forward is a ‘glue guy’, capable of playing multiple roles at the top level and versatile enough to fit in on any team, with the Suns set to take full advantage of this. He brings plenty of effort on a nightly basis, and is also impactful as a spot-up shooter and defender.
With their third and final pick of the 2025 NBA Draft, the Phoenix Suns selected Brea, a sharpshooter who will certainly make the team better from behind the arc. He was a bit of a draft bolter too, but the Suns clearly valued his ability to score without needing too much of the ball.
An electric shooter when his shots are falling, Brea does not need a high-usage to have his say in a game, and with ball-dominant players such as Booker and the newly acquired Jalen Green, it is incredibly valuable for Phoenix. Brea will likely get consistently good looks from the field given the defensive magnetism his star teammates have on court.
Although it was a changing of the guard of sorts for the Suns as they traded away one of the best players in franchise history, their haul at the 2025 NBA Draft was certainly a massive positive, and could set up plenty of team success in the future.
