2025 NBL1 Women’s | Fejo’s stars in busy day

PLAYING 35 minutes of National Basketball League (NBL)1 action can be tiring on any given day, but doing it after a full game of SANFL Women’s football? Hard to believe. But that is exactly the case for Jasmin Fejo who, after finishing for the Double Blues just after 11, crossed town to take to the court for Woodville Warriors in a nine-point NBL1 Central Women’s victory.
Truly showing how dedicated of a cross-code athlete she is, Fejo raced from Unley Oval where Sturt went down to South Adelaide with the game finishing at about 11:15am on Sunday. She had to make the 20-25 minute crosstown trip to St Clair Recreation Centre where she went from Sturt player to Sturt opponent. There, Fejo produced a mindboggling 15-point final term as her Woodville side shook off the Sabres in an incredible individual effort.
Woodville Warriors | 21 | 18 | 13 | 26 | 78 |
Sturt Sabres | 19 | 15 | 18 | 17 | 69 |
The Warriors were able to hold a lead throughout the first half to edge ahead by five at the main break. However that quickly changed in the third term when the Sabres put on 18-13 to draw level with a quarter to play. Picking up again with the home crowd behind them, the Warriors – lead by Fejo – dug deep.
Coming into the quarter the scores were level, but the athletic Woodville tall was able to rip the game from the Sabres, putting up a massive 15 points in 10 minutes – almost as much as the entire Sabres side in the term – with her team collating 26 points in a 78-69 victory. Fejo – who started on the bench considering she had to race from the football – played 35 of a possible 40 minutes and scored 26 points.
Of her 26 points, four of eight came from beyond the arc, and Fejo pulled in seven rebounds, had three steals and one block in an all-round fantastic performance. She was supported by Laura Erikstrup (15 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while Genna Anderson-Abbey (10 points, 13 rebounds and four steals) had a double-double and Naomi Allottey (nine points, 13 rebounds and four assists) was one point off achieving the feat as well.
For Sturt, it was Sydney Mech (17 points, eight rebounds and three assists) and Paige Padroth (17 points, five assists, two rebounds and two steals) who starred, with a supporting act from Sabres skipper Nicola Mathews (11 points, six steals, three assists and two rebounds).
The victory moved Woodville Warriors to fourth on the table with a 4-2 record from six games, while Sturt Sabres sit in ninth, having won just one match from their sixth encounters which was on Anzac Day when they overcame the last placed North Adelaide Rockets by three points.
