Opals squad announced for the 2022 World Cup
IN a much-anticipated release this morning, the 2022 Opals squad for next year’s World Cup in Sydney was announced. The 24-strong squad is full of talent.
It includes the likes of Tokyo 2020 squad members Jenna O’Hea, Marianna Tolo, and Sara Blicavs, and Asia Cup squad members Keely Froling, Darcee Garbin, and Maddison Rocci.
This squad will be playing the FIBA qualifiers in Serbia in February 2022 before turning their attention to the World Cup on home soil in September 2022.
The squad will remain fluid and can be added to as the performances of athletes are assessed in the various professional leagues over the coming months.
Opals coach Sandy Brondello is excited about the squad that’s been put together.
“I am really excited about the talent we have in Australian Basketball and the squad that we as coaches have put together for 2022 is a great mix of experience and youth.”
“I was particularly excited by some of the performances from the younger players in the Asia Cup post the Olympics who were given a taste of international basketball and there will be opportunities for those who work hard and make the most of their opportunities throughout the upcoming WNBL competition.”
