THE first teams of the Under 16 Girls’ Melbourne United Victorian Junior Basketball League (MUVJBL) have been eliminated from the race to the championship division, while four more teams secured their spots in the top grade for the 2019 season. We review how each pool fared in the second phase of grading.

Pool 1:

In Pool 1, Bulleen advanced through to the championship division after moving through the group stage undefeated with a percentage of 156.04. Bendigo finished second with two wins ahead of Dandenong’s second side who knocked off Nunawading 2 to ensure they stay alive in their quest to make the top grade. The Braves and Ranges head into the crossover matches.

Pool 2:

1st Ballarat
2nd Ringwood
3rd Melbourne 2
4th Latrobe

In the second pool, Ballarat emerged undefeated in a comprehensive three-week performance that saw the Miners score more than 200 points and finish with a percentage of 188.39. Ringwood secured second spot in the pool thanks to a win over the Tigers, while Melbourne will have to overcome Bendigo in the crossover matches in order to advance to the championship group.

2nd Wangaratta
3rd Sunbury
4th Hawthorn 2

In Pool 3, Altona advanced through to the championship division automatically with an undefeated campaign in the group stage. The Gators got the job done across the three games and automatically qualified for the championship, while Wangaratta and Sunbury finished second and third respectively. Unfortunately it was the end of the road for Hawthorn 2 as the Magic finished on the bottom of the pool.
