Frankston looks to get on the board

STARTING the season with three losses from three games would likely not have been how the Frankston Blues expected things to go. With the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) Under 18 Boys competition fully underway now, some sides have been able to fire, while others have struggled to get any points on the board, which has been the case for the Blues. While they have shown some signs of promise in their first few outings, it has not converted to any wins. On the scoreboard, they have been convincingly beaten by their opponents on a weekly basis, but Round 4 presents a new opportunity, and while they face the toughest opposition in the competition, what a way it would be to get their first win.

Frankston vs Nunawading
Friday, April 1 @9:40pm
Frankston Basketball Stadium

The round will kick off with a clash between the Frankston Blues and Nunawading at Frankston Basketball Stadium on Friday night. It is an interesting matchup, given the two sides have enjoyed contrasting starts to the 2022 season. Nunawading will enter the match as undisputed favourites, given their undefeated start to the season. However, the Blues will be keen to cause an upset here, and send a message to the rest of the competition with a statement win.

Frankston has been unable to fire in the first three rounds of the season, and they now find themselves in danger of falling behind the rest of the pack. With zero wins next to their name, getting on the board is crucial over the next few weeks, and it starts on Friday night. They will be eager to make up for last week’s heartbreaking two point loss at the hands of Dandenong, but there was plenty to take out of the contest. Coming up against a tough opponent in Nunawading, they will need to bring their very best, but if they can bring their fast paced, high energy style of play and Brennan Dick can back up his 18-point outing, then why not?

Nunawading has been the form team of the VC Ashe division to start season 2022, as they are the only undefeated side after three rounds of play. They seem to have found a winning formula and will be looking to stick to it this weekend. Facing off against the Blues, Nunawading are expected to win here, but will still need to bring their A-game if they wish to turn their record into 4-0. Billy Hicks was terrific with 24 points in last week’s win, so expect him to be amongst the action once again on the offensive end.

Along with the match above, there is still plenty more basketball to take place around Metropolitan Melbourne on Friday night, with no shortage of entertainment on the fixture below.
