Chelsea looking to claim maiden win in remarkable fashion
THE Big V Men’s competition returns this weekend, and the Chelsea Gulls will be looking to pull off the biggest upset of the season when they take on the Sunbury Jets at Boardman Stadium on Saturday night.
These two sides are the bookends of the standings at the moment, with the Jets sitting nicely atop the table with just one loss from 14 outings. Conversely, the Gulls have been unable to get on the board for season 2022, with 12 losses in 12 games.
It will be an extremely tough task, given the contrast of form between the two sides, but what a way it would be to kickstart the year. However, the Gulls will need to seriously improve from their recent form if they are to record the most surprising result of the season.
Sunbury vs. Chelsea

The Jets have been the side to beat so far in season 2022, winning almost all of their outings so far. They have been just about unstoppable throughout the first batch of the fixture, and look primed for a tilt at the championship come season’s end.
On both ends of the court, Sunbury has been at the top of its game, only dropping the one game throughout their campaign to date. The home side will be coming into the game as the heavy favourites, and rightfully so. It could be the most one-sided matchup of the year, but also looms as a danger game for the Jets. They should have no problem getting the job done here, but the opposition will be hungry for an upset, so there will be no room for error.
The Jets have been well served by the efforts of Ishmael Sanders, who has been one of the MVP candidates for the entire competition. Last outing, he poured in 36 points, and has been a consistent source of points in the first 14 games. Expect him to be amongst the most dangerous offensive players on the court on Saturday night.
The Gulls have not been able to fire so far in 2022, unable to win a game in the first 11 rounds of action. They remain the only winless side to date, but will be looking to change that this weekend, but will need to bring their absolute best if they are to do so.
There has not been enough consistency on the offensive end, and it has cost them in a big way. The key to Saturday night’s game will be being able to deliver on both ends of the court. We have seen how dangerous Sunbury’s offence can be, so it will need to be a complete two-way performance from the Gulls.
