Casey looks to remain unbeaten against Blues

THE Casey Cavaliers will be eager to keep their undefeated record rolling when they take on the Frankston Blues in the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) Under-18 Girls on the weekend.

The two sides will go face-to-face at Casey Stadium on Friday night, in what will be a cracking contest based on recent form. The Cavaliers have been the best side in the competition since the league revamped as the VC Championship and Reserve division, with Casey succeeding in the former. On the other hand, the Blues delivered their most impressive win of the year last week, and appear to be back on track to have a shot at the title.

With both sides in some good nick, Friday night’s contest is set to be a cracking affair, especially considering both sides have a bit on the line. The Cavaliers will be looking to further the gap between them and their peers in the standings, while Frankston has the chance to move up the ladder with an upset win here.

As mentioned above, the Cavaliers have been the form side of the competition in the opening weeks, and currently sit atop the standings with a record of 2-0 in the VC Championship division. They have found a seriously strong style of play, and their offence is rolling as smooth as any side in the competition. With the ability to post 80+ points on any given week,

Casey will come into the contest as the favoured side. However, the Blues should prove a formidable opponent, so the home side will be looking to post a winning score. Last week, Lucy Dexter and Kyra Webb combined for 35 points, and if they can get off the chain again, it may prove too much for the Blues defence.

The Blues were excellent in taking down the Boomers last weekend, and will be eager to carry that momentum forward into the matchup against the Cavaliers. They had to grind out a win, one that came on the back of some impressive defensive work.

Against a Casey side that has the potential to dominate offensively, the same work eithic will need to make an appearance here if the Blues want to get the job done. In that contest, Bonnie Deas was a true leader with ball in hand, finishing with 22 points, a showing that could be repeated on Friday night, and could prove vital if so.
