Son of a gun drops 39 in win

HIS FATHER was an All-Star in the NBA, and now Jameer Nelson Jr. is showing glimpses of the same scoring power in his own game.

The Delaware Blue Hens guard dropped a game-high 39 points in the 75-66 triumph over the UNC Wilmington Seahawks on Sunday. The Blue Hens produced an outstanding performance in the first half, outscoring the opposition by 13 to take control of the match and although UNC lifted after the main break, Delaware always looked in control on its way to victory.

Nelson Jr. was the standout player on the court, exploding for a massive offensive performance. The defence had no answers for his shot making ability, as the point guard tore the opposition to shreds.

Jameer Nelson Jr. – 39 points, three rebounds, two assists, three steals

Nelson Jr. had his scoring power on full display in the win over the Seahawks, nailing shots from just about anywhere, much to the dismay of the opposition.

Nelson Jr.’s 39 points were far and away the most of any player on the court, announcing himself as the most dangerous factor of the match. Although his side scored 75 points, he was the only Blue Hen to register double-digits, emphasising his dominance in the match.

The explosive guard shot 13/21 from the field, seemingly unfazed by the defence as he did as he pleased scoring the rock. Whether it was inside or behind the arc, Nelson Jr. was able to conjure buckets from all three levels, making it extremely tough for the Seahawks players to guard him.

From three-point territory, he shot 5/8, punishing the defence for giving him any space on the perimeter. Nelson Jr. releases the ball at the perfect time in his jumpshot, making plenty of shots from downtown.

He was also able to make an impact at the charity stripe, going 8/10 from the free throw line. His fearless attack on the rim proved to be a winning method, forcing the defence into fouling rather than giving up the easy bucket.

It was evident that his teammates were looking to get the ball in his hands by any means necessary, given he took the most shots on the team by a significant margin. He was the team’s most reliable source of scoring and the Blue Hens were rewarded with a win as a result of running the offence through Nelson Jr. all match.
