DAY SIX of the Under-18 National Championships saw some big wins in the boys division to close out this phase of the tournament.

Unfortunately, Northern Territory was on the wrong end of the two biggest margins of the fixture, playing two games on Thursday alone. Things were closed out when it faced off against Queensland South in the final match of the day.

The match took place in the afternoon, in an attempt to give the NT enough time to recover from its morning match-up, which was a heavy defeat to South Australia Country.

A rested and refreshed Queensland South side was always going to be tough to upset, given its strength over the tournament (coming in with an undefeated record in comparison to a NT side still searching for a maiden win).

Queensland South flexed all of its muscles in a massive win on Thursday afternoon, firing on all cylinders on the offensive end. It broke out to an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back, producing one of the most intimidating performances of the entire tournament.

There was not much that the Northern Territory could do on either end to counteract this play, falling behind on the scoreboard as the lead ballooned out above 20 points in no time at all. Queensland South did not let up for the entirety of the match, cruising home to a whopping 111-point win to close out a perfect campaign from the closest thing to a home team the table has.

The victors dominated in every facet of the game, as the score suggests, and the biggest discrepancy was in their success inside the arc, where they made 47 shots on just 61 attempts, which is remarkable efficiency.

The balance of scorers for Queensland South was also a massive factor in the result of the match, delivering an eye-catching six players who registered 15 or more points. It was a testament to the strength of the team’s list, which has led the side to an undefeated record of six wins from six outings. Future NBL prospect Roman Siulepa impressed with an all-around performance of eight points, five rebounds and five assists, further generating the buzz around his potential.

Queensland South finished at the top of the table in the Under-18 Boys National Championships, capping off a seriously dominant campaign. It was the only unbeaten side at the end of the fixture, and deserved to finish in such emphatic fashion. Although it played an underdone Northern Territory, the level of dominance in this match reflected the winning side’s performance over the course of the tournament.
