IN one of the most high-scoring matches of the season, it was Jack Stanwix that was able to lead his Norwood Flames past the Southern Tigers in the NBL1 Central Men’s on the weekend.

Both sides came into the match eager to notch a win given their performances to start the season. The Flames had claimed their first win of the fixture in Round 3, while the Tigers were still yet to get one on the board. The two sides went head to head in the first match of the round at the ARC Campbelltown on Saturday night.

The two teams came out firing in the crucial matchup, and could be separated for much of the game. Such was the closeness of the match that proceedings headed to overtime, and after multiple extra periods, the Flames managed to claim a tense five-point triumph, in one of the most entertaining matches of the season.

While there were a number of players that had a say in the result of the game, none had a bigger impact than Stanwix, who posted a monster statline in his side’s win and was a vital factor.

Jack Stanwix – 40 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, four steals

Stanwix was a massive presence in Norwood’s win, popping up constantly for the Flames and doing a bit of everything and ensuring his efforts stretched into overtime, when it mattered most.

In a high-scoring affair, no player produced more points than Stanwix’s 40, proving a serious force when shooting the ball. The guard delivered shots from an array of areas in the half court, and was more than a handful for the opposition.

Most of his attempts came from inside the arc, where he shot 10/17 with a combination of paint scoring and mid-range shots. However, he showcased his range by making half of his eight attempts from three-point territory, making the most of any space given by the defence.

The former Hobart Charger was also a force on the boards, and the most impressive part of his 11 rebounds was the fact that five came on the offensive end, generating some crucial second-chance buckets for the Flames, and some of those plays came down the stretch in crunch time.

Despite delivering an excellent scoring game, Stanwix was still smart enough to make the right passes on the offensive end, and the right reads when defending. It was an excellent all-around performance and was incredibly important in getting Norwood to an important win.
