THERE could not have been a more perfect way to conclude the Australian Boomers’ 2024 FIBA Asia Cup qualifying window on Sunday night, defeating Indonesia in dominant fashion to make it a two-game winning streak.

Following their comeback victory against Korea last week, the pressure was on the Boomers to carry the momentum from the fourth quarter into their matchup against Indonesia. Although the opposition was much lower ranked than Australia at 74th, there was still a bit of pressure on the Aussies given how much success Korea had for much of the match last week.

However, the Boomers once again put the foot down to record a whopping 106-51 triumph and finish the window in style.

Travelling overseas to face Indonesia on its home deck in Jakarta, Australia got going in the opening quarter, moving the ball well and experiencing far less offensive droughts than the previous contest. As a result, the Boomers took a 10-point lead into the first change, fully in control of the match.

The second quarter saw a much improved effort from the home side on the offensive end, able to finally find space throughout their sets and knock down some good looks. However, the Aussies were still able to use their NBL star power to generate consistent offence, and the margin was stretched out to 16 points at the main change.

In an eye-catching showing of strong defence and poor offence, Indonesia was restricted to just two points in the third quarter, allowing the Boomers to burst away on the scoreboard. The lead ballooned out to 36 points heading into the final term, with Australia showing no signs of slowing down.

The final quarter was much of the same, with the Boomers continuing to flex their muscles and look the far superior side. The crowd in Jakarta was silenced as Australia cruised home to a 55-point win, with the dominant third quarter laying the foundation for this result.

Having recently declared for the NBA Draft, forward Josh Bannan was again the star of the show with 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Isaac Humphries top scored with 18 points on an accurate 6/8 shooting from the field.

For Indonesia, Lester Prosper scored a match-high 26 points on 10/18 shooting from the field in a valiant performance.
