Smith makes it Reyne to set school record
AUSSIE guard Reyne Smith has produced an astounding shooting performance, knocking down 10 three-pointers as his Louisville Cardinals bested the SMU Mustangs by 25 points on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cardinals are currently ranked 25th in the country, and were favourites against the Mustangs, marking its first match as a ranked side in almost four years. Louisville had been in good form heading into the contest, and was heading towards March with a full head of steam.
It was a one-sided affair from the get-go, with the Cardinals getting the first score on the board in the form of a Chucky Hepburn (13 points, 16 assists) three-pointer and never waivered from there. Louisville did not trail for the entirety of the match in an emphatic display, showing how good its form is.
Smith was at his best in the win over the Mustangs, equalling his career-high in points and continuing an impressive campaign with the Cardinals.

Reyne Smith – 30 points, three rebounds, one assist, one steal
Smith was on fire in the win over the Mustangs on Wednesday, showing why he is considered one of the best shooters in college at the moment.
His 10 three-pointers were the most of any Louisville player in a single match, setting a record for the program in a clear display of his abilities to find the bottom of the net from long-range.
Smith has a quick-fire release that allows him to get off a shot before the defence can alter his shot with a solid contest. The Tasmanian works hard off the ball and wraps around screens to get separation from his immediate defender.
Although it took him a while to get going, three made triples in the space of three minutes ensured Smith was a viable offensive option, and the Cardinals looked to get the ball in his hands wherever possible. He combined well with Hepburn in halfcourt sets as the pair did as they pleased on the offensive end.
He balanced his scoring out between the two halves, and played a crucial role on getting the Cardinals out to a match-winning lead. Whenever it looked as if the Mustangs were trying to make a push, the Aussie guard popped up for another three-pointer to settle things.
Smith shot 10/17 from behind the arc in an excellent shooting display, helping the Cardinals to their second-highest total in a match this season, and showed exactly what he is capable of if not checked properly off the ball.
