2025 NBA Draft Team Preview – New York Knicks

HAVING traded away most of their draft capital to enter championship contention, the New York Knicks will be one of the quietest teams at the 2025 NBA Draft in Chicago later this month, but will still look to find a draft slider.
The Knicks made the Eastern Conference Finals during the 2024/25 NBA season, having been one of the best sides in the NBA throughout stages of the fixture. Built on a roster led by star point guard Jalen Brunson and big man recruit Karl-Anthony Towns, the Knicks looked a title contender.
They made it to the penultimate series of the playoffs, but were matched up against the Indiana Pacers, who have been one of the form teams since the start of January. The Knicks ended up losing in six games, falling short of the NBA finals once again.
Armed with just one selection at the draft, New York will have to wait a while before making its first pick, but could find a solid role player further down the order given how stacked the 2025 class has proven to be so far.

The Knicks will likely be in contention next season as well, given their main core is still under contract for the 2025/26 fixture. However, with plenty of hefty contracts on the payroll given the star-studded nature of their roster, New York will unlikely be able to make a splash in free agency.
This is where the draft comes into the frame, because if the Knicks can somehow find a gem late in the piece, it will be a cheap way to add a contributor for the coming years, and given the amount of talent they currently have on the roster, they can afford to develop their draftee properly.
The frontcourt situation in New York has proven interesting over the past few months, because although Towns is one of the best in the business, he and Brunson struggled on the court together in the postseason, and Robinson’s free throw shooting proved costly at times.
So the Knicks may look to add another big man to the fold for the future, and Johni Broome could be the answer here, having shown plenty during his time with Auburn and demonstrating his value to teams at the top level.
Broome is a skilled inside scorer, showing an excellent rolling ability and great touch around the basket, as well as a physical nature that allows him to bully his way to the hoop. He can also be a connective playmaker and set the tone on defence as well, making him a solid big man option for the future if the Knicks go down this path.
Another option could be for the Knicks to add to its wing stocks, particularly from an offensive point of view, with both Anunoby and Bridges more defensive-oriented players. One prospect who could fill this void is Darrion Williams from Texas.
He is an excellent shotmaker, who is naturally gifted at finding the bottom of the net and can truly tear a game apart once he gets going from the field. A versatile offensive prospect who would be an instant injection of offence, Williams may be what New York needs.
