SNAPSHOT
A forward who boasts plenty of versatility and should be able to make an impact in the NBA, Jamir Watkins would be a solid second round selection for several teams at the 2025 NBA Draft, which takes place in June in the city of Chicago.
Although his jumpshot does need to develop if he is to become a truly dangerous offensive threat, there is enough in his game to convince scouts that he can play a number of roles at the top level, and can slot into plenty of lineups in the coming years.
DRAFT PROFILE
Born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey, Watkins got his basketball career underway early, and made waves as a member of the Trenton Catholic Academy, standing out as a member of their team and catching the eye of plenty of NCAA programs.
The forward was rated a three-star recruit coming out of high school and joined the VCU Rams for his freshman season in the collegiate system. He came off the bench for most of the season with the Rams, and ended up playing three campaigns with the team.
Watkins transferred to Florida State to play for the Seminoles following the 2022/23 season, in what was an inspired move. In an increased role, the forward was able to thrive and entered draft contention after putting together a strong campaign.
Throughout the 2024/25 season, Watkins posted numbers of 18.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.5 blocks per game, while shooting 42.7 per cent from the field, 32.1 per cent from behind the arc and 74.7 per cent from the charity stripe.

IMPROVEMENTS
- Shooting
- Defensive discipline
Watkins has the ability to play multiple roles at the top level, and can certainly fill several holes on an NBA roster. Whether it is secondary playmaking, driving to the paint or locking down the opposition, he is a 'jack of all trades' type player.
On the defensive end, he has the size and athleticism to switch well and guard multiple positions, and should be able to translate that to the top level. He has the speed to guard smaller players on the perimeter, while also boasting the strength to hold his own against bigger opponents in the paint.
At six-foot-five, his ball handling is impressive for his size, and as mentioned above, he can be a secondary playmaker for a team at NBA level. Offence can be run through him, and he can take some pressure off the team's point guard if needed.
The big question mark around his game comes down to his shooting, not showing much of an impact from behind the arc. Over his four college campaigns, he made just 32 per cent of his long-range attempts, and can be left open from deep.
DRAFT PROJECTION: Second round
Watkins is a 'plug and play' draft prospect, able to thrive in multiple lineups and play several roles within the team with his impressive skillset. Although his shooting has a fair way to go, he still has enough tools to make it in the NBA.
