2025 NBA Draft Team Wrap – Golden State Warriors

GOLDEN State Warriors were made to wait for their selections at the 2025 NBA Draft in Chicago last week, but made some eye-catching additions on night two of proceedings as they look towards the future.

Having been the most successful team of the last decade, the Warriors’ stars are in the twilight of their careers, and the team will need to add young pieces later in the draft given they have been perennial contenders and traded away their first round picks.

The Warriors had two selections in the 2025 NBA Draft, both in the second round, and added some experienced prospects with these picks, in additions that could prove fruitful in the coming years if developed well.

The Warriors found some sliders in the 2025 NBA Draft, picking a pair of players that certainly have the capability to contribute now if they need rotation pieces for their current tilt at a fifth championship in 10 years.

Firstly, they added Aussie forward Alex Toohey with the 52nd overall selection of the draft, with the youngster already having two seasons of professional basketball under his belt as a member of the Sydney Kings in the NBL, winning the Next Generation Award in his second campaign.

A versatile player who can slot into lineups with ease, Toohey has skills that go beyond his position, bringing excellent playmaking as a forward, with the ability to be a secondary ball-handler a huge positive, while he can drive inside and finish consistently too, although his shooting does need some work.

He will be the second Aussie on the roster for Golden State, given the Warriors announced they will be keeping Taran Armstrong for the 2025/26 season, with the point guard looking to make his NBA debut in the coming year.

With their second pick, the Warriors acquired recent NCAAM champion Richard, a ‘3 and D’ operator whose perimeter shooting will fit nicely onto the most prominent three-point shooting team of the modern era.

He can score off the dribble, but does his best work in catch and shoot situations, not needing much of the ball to get into his groove. Richard will likely get some good looks given how much the opposition defence tends to collapse on Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler, and will compliment the team’s stars nicely with his two-way traits.

The Warriors have a tendency to unearth gems late in the NBA Draft, with Draymond Green proving one of the biggest steals in the past 20 years. They may have done so again here with Toohey and Richard, and both players seem to be a nice fit for the playing list they have already built.
