BRISBANE Bullets have continued to build one of the strongest rosters ahead of the upcoming 2025/26 National Basketball League (NBL) season, adding former NBA and G League guard Javon Freeman-Liberty over the weekend.
Having already secured the services of former NBL MVP Jaylen Adams and NBA Champion Alex Ducas in recent months, the Bullets got another boost when they added the import guard, who brings plenty of experience at the top level and will elevate Brisbane even further.
Freeman-Liberty played college basketball at DePaul, and was named to the All-Big East Second Team for his final campaign in the NCAAM. After going undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, the guard joined the Chicago Bulls for the Summer League and then the Windy City Bulls after not securing a contract at the top level.
It proved to be a winning move, with Freeman-Liberty starring for the Bulls in his 17 appearances, posting numbers of 18.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.4 steals in 30.2 minutes per game, looking a cut above his peers in an excellent campaign that was catching eyes around the NBA, and another strong Summer League performance showed he was worthy of an opportunity.
Freeman-Liberty then signed a two-way contract with the Toronto Raptors, and when he was assigned to the team’s G League affiliate in the Raptors 905, the guard continued to shine, averaging 24 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game and eventually earning a call up to the Raptors at NBA level.
He spent the remainder of the 2023/24 NBA season with the Raptors, and posted a career-high 20 points against the Indiana Pacers. Unfortunately, he did not keep his spot on the team for the following season and played his most recent campaign with Windy City in the G League again.
Now, Freeman-Liberty joins the Bullets, where he will be able to thrive on a championship contender and showcase his abilities on a weekly basis. Combining with Adams and Ducas, as well as big man Tyrell Harrison playing his role in the frontcourt, Brisbane is suddenly right in the championship window.
As a player, Freeman-Liberty is a talented scorer, able to find the bottom of the net across all three levels and create his own shots a t a consistent rate, making him and Adams a seriously dangerous combination in the backcourt. He can also hold his own defensively, largely through pure effort and desire to not be beaten by his opponent, while he can certainly step up for a clutch shot, and will be one of the most exciting imports in the NBL this season.
“To add a talent of Javon’s calibre to our roster at this stage is really exciting. He’s a hungry player who’s ready to take the next step in his development as a professional,” Brisbane Bullets head coach Stu Lash said.
“His toughness, ferocity, and willingness to compete make him a natural fit for what we value at the Brisbane Bullets.
“Javon will fit seamlessly into our playing group, and I have no doubt he’ll make an immediate impact in the NBL.”
