Big V Women’s Stats Wrap: Rounds 1-11

WITH the Big V Women’s Basketball competition past the halfway mark for season 2022, there has been a lot to take out of the first 11 rounds of play. We have seen some big wins and some massive individual outings to start the year, in what has been one of the more memorable starts to the season in recent memory.

With just seven weeks remaining until the home and away portion of the fixture wraps up, we take a look at some of the individuals who have been excelling in the key statistical categories to start the year. With a number of players putting their names forward in the Most Valuable Player (MVP) race, there have been a few that have claimed important stats groups as their own.

Points

Maria Steen Jespersen (Sunbury) – 24.67
Hallie Nickerson (Pakenham) – 19.2
Ida Anderson (Sunbury) – 18.9
Briana Gray (Hume) – 18.08
Dyani Ananiev (Wyndham) – 17.89

The scoring power of Sunbury is on display here, with two of the top three scorers to start the season. Jespersen has only appeared in six games to start the year, but her impact has been undeniable in this time. Averaging just under 25 points a game, she has been combining well with Anderson, who has been a pillar of consistency and the duo have been crucial in all of Sunbury’s wins. Nickerson has been strong for Pakenham, and has been a key factor in all of its five wins.

Rebounds

Maria Steen Jespersen (Sunbury) – 11.17
Briana Gray (Hume) – 11
Asia Glenn (Southern Peninsula) – 11
Harmony Harder (Hume) – 10.23
Jacinta Vandenberg (McKinnon) – 9.15

Once again it is Jespersen at the top of the list, taking no time at all to have an impact across a number of categories. She is the only player to average over 11 rebounds per game, and Sunbury will be eager to get her services back on the court for the rest of the season. Gray has also been strong, making the top five in both points and rebounds as she displays a serious level of dominance, while Glenn rounds out the top three as the final player to average 11 boards per game.

Assists

Ida Anderson (Sunbury) – 5.2
Amanda Paschal (Wyndham) – 4.77
Claire Ioaniddis (McKinnon) – 4.69
Louella Tomlinson (Bulleen) – 4.33
Althea Kara Angeles (Hume) – 4.33

Anderson has been the pick of the competition, with her ability to find teammates in the best possible position. The only player in the league to average over five dimes a game, she has been invaluable to the Jets. Paschal is not far behind, and has been vital to the success of Wyndham in season 2022, while Ioaniddis is always amongst the most damaging players on a weekly basis.
