Broncos aiming to take down Jets

IN a blockbuster matchup for the Big V Men’s championship, the Hume Broncos will travel to Boardman Stadium on Sunday afternoon to take on the Sunbury Jets. In a clash between two of the top three sides in the competition, there will be a bit more than pride on the line in what should be an entertaining matchup.

The Jets have been the benchmark of the competition throughout the first 10 rounds of play, and with a record of 11-1, they do not look like slowing down any time soon. On the other hand, the Broncos have been solid without being amazing, and despite a record of just 7-5, they sit third on the ladder. It will be a tough task taking down this Sunbury side, but if at its best, Hume is capable of posting a winning score. However, if they are to do so, then they will need to make sure they are switched on defensively.

The Jets have basically not put a foot wrong in the start to season, emerging winners in all but one of their first 12 outings. It seems the home side has found a winning style of play and the ability to dismantle the opposition on a weekly basis. Round 11 will see them take on a fellow member of the top four, but Sunbury will still enter the game as the favoured side. With the competition surpassing the halfway mark, staying on top will be the main goal for the Jets, and that starts this weekend. Fresh off a dominant 55-point win over Blackburn last round, there will be no shortage of momentum behind Sunbury, but it depends if any side can find them out over the coming weeks. Ishmael Sanders has been one of the MVP candidates to start the year, and will probably be among the top bucket-getters again on Sunday afternoon.

The Broncos have been pretty decent themselves in the opening 10 rounds, with a win percentage just above 50 percent on their way to seven wins from 12 outings. Despite doing enough to be planted inside the top three midway through the season, they will enter this matchup as the underdogs, and will need to bring their best outing of the year if they are to conjure an upset here. We know how good their offence can be, given they hold the fifth highest scorer in the competition in Chris Elder, who has been averaging 22.92 points per game. The biggest challenge comes down the other end and holding the Jets to a low enough score. It will be an uphill battle, one that not many have conquered, but if they can clamp up Sanders, then they might get it done on the road.
