Cadee carves out another trophy in sensational season

ONE of Australia’s premier guards has delivered another terrific individual feat to his storied career, with Jason Cadee taking home the NBL1 North Men’s MVP award after an outstanding individual campaign.

Cadee returned to the reigning champions in the Gold Coast Rollers, having taken out the Grand Final MVP award in 2022. He took things to the next level this year, producing an exceptional regular season to put his side right back in contention once again.

The guard produced numbers of 26.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 12.2 assists in an outstanding statline. Having cemented himself as one of the most impactful backcourt players in the country, proving it at both NBL and NBL1 level, Cadee took home the competition’s highest individual honour in truly deserving fashion.

The 32-year-old showcased his ceiling with a standout performance against the Darwin Salties, where he produced a showing that had to be seen to be believed. He poured in a whopping 52 points to go with four rebounds and 13 assists in a marvellous individual outing. It was a true demonstration of what he can do offensively, and how important he is to Gold Coast’s title aspirations.

Cadee’s campaign led the Rollers to a record of 17 wins and two losses, locking in first place in the process. He has continued his strong form into the postseason, pouring in 25 points and 12 assists in the qualifying final, and 22 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists in the semi-final.

The Rollers have booked a spot in the three-game grand final series, which kicks off this weekend, where they will be taking on the Ipswich Force in the decider, where Cadee will play a vitally important role.

In the women’s competition, Courtney Woods capped off a dominant season of her own, leading from the front for the Northside Wizards with a strong showing. She averaged 25.3 points, seven rebounds and 6.6 assists per game, doing a bit of everything in a classy campaign.

Woods was extremely consistent, posting double-digits in every game and constantly delivering 20 points or more. The guard was at her damaging best with ball in hand, and deservingly took out the league’s most prestigious individual honour as a result.

The NBL1 North Grand Final series kick off this weekend, in best of three matchups, with the winner off to the National Championship later this year.
