Cadee carves out stunning statline

ALTHOUGH the NBL1 is host to some of the nation’s rising stars, some of the most established basketball stars in Australia are still making their mark in the competition.

In the North Men’s division over the weekend, veteran guard Jason Cadee had himself a day out as the Gold Coast Rollers handed the Cairns Marlins a 15-point loss at Carrara Stadium on Friday night. It was a cracking way to kick off Round 4 for the Rollers, and continued their solid start to the 2023 season.

Although they eventually won the game, the Rollers were actually trailing at the final change by three points. However, a 34-16 final term was a dominant way to finish the match, with Gold Coast stunning the opposition with a clinical display.

Speaking of clinical, it would be a perfect way to describe the performance of Cadee, who showed every bit of his veteran craft to help lead the Rollers to victory.

Jason Cadee – 42 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, two steals

Cadee played an instrumental role in Gold Coast’s come from behind win, taking over the match on his way to posting a ridiculous statline.

42 points (a game-high figure) would have been a ridiculous total alone, but what makes his performance even more impressive is the fact that he posted it alongside strong numbers in other areas.

Cadee shot 13/24 from the field, and did a considerable amount of damage from behind the arc, where he nailed seven shots on 11 attempts. Some of these buckets came down the stretch as the Rollers went on their match winning run. Throughout his career, the guard has always shown the ability to find the bottom of the net, and it was in full flight against Cairns.

Much of his rebounding work was thanks to his savvy ability to read the ball off the rim, a skill that has come from his experience at the top level. He split his rebounding work at both ends, recording five offensive and five defensive boards, all of which proved crucial in securing the win.

Given his high scoring rate, Cadee began to draw a fair bit of defensive attention, including double-teams. The guard’s ability to make the right pass out of these situations resulted in a game-high assists total of eight dimes, creating plenty of scoring opportunities for his teammates, who knocked down the shots more often than not.

It was a truly complete performance from Cadee, who dominated proceedings as his side overcame a late deficit to record another win.
