Crocs claim gold after defeating China in decider

THE AUSTRALIAN Crocs have completed the perfect tournament at the 2025 FIBA Under-16 Asia Cup in Mongolia over the weekend, remaining unbeaten and claiming a 27-point win over China in the Gold Medal match on Sunday.
It was the Crocs’ record-breaking fourth consecutive title at the tournament, breaking the record previously set by their opponent in yesterday’s decider, with the Aussies also qualifying for the FIBA Under-17 World Cup in 2026.
Australia’s perfect record at the tournament remained intact, with the campaign set up by a pair of massive wins during the group stage, before getting the job done against the remaining contenders in the finals.
It was a competitive start to the contest, with the Chinese showing they were certainly up for the fight in the opening half in particular. The Aussies were being forced to fight tooth and nail for every basket and were not able to go on the dominant scoring runs that they had previously delivered earlier in the tournament.
At the main change, the Crocs led by a solitary point, and it was certainly game on in the decider, with China keeping it a scrappy contest. It was as close as anyone had looked at knocking off the reigning champions and the Crocs were going to have to make some changes at half time if they were to remain undefeated and claim another title.
The third quarter ended up breaking the game open, with the Crocs truly taking over the contest and showing why they were the best team in the tournament. Australia made it a transition game, getting the necessary stops on the defensive end before scoring in the open court. It was a 12-point lead to the Aussies at the final change, and the Crocs had done enough to snatch control of the game.
The final term was more of the same from the Australians, with the Crocs continuing to look their potent and productive best on the offensive end. The game simply slipped away from the Chinese, and it ended up being an 85-58 triumph to the Aussies.
Luke Roland Paul put on a masterclass in the decider, dropping 26 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists and almost finishing with an extremely rare triple-double. It capped off a tremendous campaign where he was named tournament MVP for his efforts.

Also impressing for the Australians was Will Hamilton, who had 16 points and eight rebounds, while Antonio Browne (14 points, eight boards) and Lucas Byrne (11 points, seven rebounds) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Aussies.
