Daniels Dash-ing to United as Next Star

THE DANIELS name continues to grow, with Dash looking to follow in his brother’s footsteps and make the NBA. However, he will be taking a different path, instead joining the National Basketball League (NBL) Next Stars program.

Daniels’ brother Dyson was drafted to the NBA as the eighth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, and has emerged as one of the best defenders in the competition this season, and now his brother looms as another top talent in his draft year.

Dash is eligible for the 2026 NBA Draft, and is considered one of the top prospects of his class. His obvious talent has been on show from a young age playing junior basketball in Victoria and making a name for himself in his own right.

Daniels had offers coming from top NCAAM programs such as Louisville and LSU given he is expected to be a first round prospect in 18 months’ time. Instead, he turned his back on the college path, and will be suiting up for United in the NBL next season.

A native of Bendigo, Daniels opted to stay close to home and join a program that has produced top NBA talent such as Lamelo Ball, Joshua Giddey and Alexandre Sarr. The Next Stars system is becoming highly renowned around the globe, and Daniels is a huge coup for the competition.

Dash and Dyson have some similarities in the way they play, given his defensive ability and awareness when the other team has the ball. Dash has the same active hands that has helped his brother launch into NBA stardom, averaging the most steals in the competition.

While Dash is just as gifted defensively, he is arguably a better offensive prospect than his brother was ahead of his draft year. The younger Daniels is a skilled playmaker, and has the tools to impact the game as a scorer as well. While Dyson has been an excellent backcourt pairing for Trae Young given his off-ball value, Dash likes the ball in his hands a bit more, and is certainly capable of leading a team’s offence at the top level.

The six-foot-six guard also has experience at international level, representing Australia most recently at the 2024 FIBA Under-17 World Cup, where he led the tournament in steals per game at 3.6. He has a body that is NBL-ready and should be able to make an immediate impact for United.

Daniels joins Karim Lopez as a Next Star for the 2025/26 NBL season, and both are projected to be first-round picks in the 2026 NBA Draft.
