Davison does it again as Celtics crush Capital City

IT WAS another masterful performance from Maine Celtics guard JD Davison in his side’s massive 20-point win over the Capital City Go-Go in the first round of the G League playoffs earlier today.
Just about the form player of the G League, Davison was again enormous for the Celtics against the Go-Go when the two sides clashed at Portland Expo Building on Wednesday morning. Maine finished the season with a record of 21-13 and came into the clash having won seven of their last 10 games. On the other hand, Capital City was one win behind with a record of 20-14, potentially setting up a close encounter.
The game was just about over by quarter time, with the Celtics dropping a whopping 40 points in the first period to lead by 20 at the opening change. Maine continued that charge throughout the second and third periods, leading by an astounding 33 points at the final change. Although the Go-Go produced their best performance in the fourth term, there was no way they were going to chase down such a large lead, as the Celtics emerged big winners to advance to the next stage.
Davison was the star of the show for Maine, just as he has been all season long, and showed exactly why he single handedly makes his team a genuine threat for the title in the coming weeks.
Maine Celtics (115) def. Capital City Go-Go (95)
JD Davison – 38 points, four rebounds, 12 assists, two steals
For many players, the statline listed above would be a season-best effort, but that is just a testament to the standard Davison has set throughout his 2024/25 campaign, and the Go-Go simply had no answer for his high level of play.
He started the game out with a nice dime to Drew Peterson, who promptly nailed the open triple after Davison set him up with a timely pass. The point guard then got involved on the action himself with a nice driving layup, showing how fast he can create separation from his defender.
The assists kept coming as he took full advantage of the defence looking to put as much pressure on him as possible, with Peterson nailing his second three-pointer as a result to help stretch Maine’s lead out further.
Davison got involved on the long-range barrage himself with a quick fire catch and shoot to stretch the lead out to 17, before recording his sixth dime of the quarter with a nice dime out to Jordan Schakel on the perimeter. The superstar guard then capped off the quarter with his second triple to ensure Maine’s lead was at 20 points.
After starting the second term on the bench, he was injected into the game a few minutes into the quarter, and picked up where he left off with a 25-foot three-pointer to push the margin out even further. Another three-pointer followed a couple of minutes later, and with 16 points and six assists at the half, there was no player more influential than Davison.
It was again the perfect start to the half for the point guard, who drilled a stepback three-pointer to show that he had not cooled off over the break at all, much to the dismay of the opposition. He continued to be the focal point for Maine on the offensive end, and completely exploded in the third quarter with 15 points and five assists, which would have been an impressive performance for an entire match, let alone one period.
He nailed his seventh triple to start the fourth quarter in a ridiculous shooting display, and finished the night with a pair of nice finishes inside as the Celtics cruised home to a commanding triumph, sending a message to the rest of the competition in the process.
Davison finished the night with 38 points and 12 dimes on 15/22 shooting from the field, which included going 7/10 from behind the arc. If he can continue to take over matches like this, the Celtics are going to be awfully hard to stop.
