Dennis delivers in rookie G League campaign

IT WAS a tremendous first up campaign from RayJ Dennis during his debut season in the G League, starring for the Indiana Mad Ants and San Diego Clippers and being named to the NBA G League All-Rookie Team for his efforts.

Dennis went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft, but got his chance to shine in the G League the following year, earning a two-way contract with the Indiana Pacers after a strong stint with the San Diego Clippers in the first few months of the season.

Dennis’ campaign with the Clippers was certainly a successful one, appearing in 18 contests with the team and taking charge on the offensive end. He was productive as a scorer and passer, and thrived with the responsibility of orchestrating the offence.

It seemed to be the path into the NBA for the guard, who had played in the previous Summer League, but did not secure a contract heading into the 2024/25 season. The G League is becoming more prominent of a route for undrafted players to still find a lifeline and it looked to be the case for Dennis.

Throughout the first couple of months of the G League season, Dennis averaged 16.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game and started every game he played with San Diego leading the team on a nightly basis. However, the NBA soon came knocking.

The former Baylor Bears point guard joined the Pacers in January, signing a two-way contract with the team and joining the team’s G League affiliate, where he was injected into the starting lineup whenever he played at G League level.

Dennis also appeared in 11 NBA contests with Indiana at the top level, playing six minutes a game for averages of 2.7 points, 1.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.2 blocks per game, making the most of his limited court time and almost becoming an NBA Champion in the process.

Across 20 G League appearances, Dennis posted numbers of 22.1 points, 8.8 assists, 5.9 rebounds and two steals per game in a strong season, showing a bright future and the potential to crack into an NBA rotation in the coming years.

He was a part of an All-Rookie Team that was comprised of all undrafted players, showing the G League as a genuine path into putting players back onto the map after not being selected in the draft in previous years.

Dennis should keep his good form rolling, and has impressed with the Indiana Pacers throughout the 2025 NBA Summer League, highlighted by a tremendous performance against the New York Knicks. The point guard posted 15 points and 11 assists on 5/10 shooting while committing just three turnovers in a tidy showing.

The opportunity is certainly there for Dennis to make his mark at NBA level next season with Tyrese Haliburton sidelined for the entire campaign with an Achilles injury. If the Pacers opt to give him a chance to run the offence off the bench, it could be the start of a strong career at the top level, having demonstrated his ability in the G League already.
