‘DJ’ and ‘LT’ shining in Summer League

THE NBA Summer League action rolls on over the weekend, with NBL talents set to continue to showcase their talents in front of scouts and fans.

The Summer League is the perfect platform for Aussie exports to show exactly what they bring to the table, with the potential to secure a contract late in the off-season.

After declining the option to return to the Sydney Kings, explosive guard Dejan Vasiljevic is steadily making a name for himself in the Summer League.

Suiting up for the Washington Wizards, the 26-year-old has been showcasing his offensive game while coming off the bench, and his production has been building as the tournament has continued.

It all culminated in a scoring eruption in Washington’s 105-89 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder over the weekend. Despite getting just 11 minutes of court time, Vasiljevic showed what he is truly capable of with a terrific offensive showing in limited time.

He poured in 14 points on 5/6 shooting from the field, impressing coaches and scouts in an eye-catching display. Vasiljevic cashed in from behind the arc with four of his makes coming from three-point land on just five attempts. Although his accuracy was not as impressive the following game, it was still a glimpse of what he can do.

There has been plenty of anticipation around the performance of Luke Travers with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Despite signing with Melbourne United for the upcoming NBL season, Travers’ ultimate goal has been to join the Cavaliers at NBA level sooner rather than later.

He has been thrown into a variety of roles during Cleveland’s Summer League campaign, initially coming off the bench before being injected into the starting lineup at the center position as the team went for a smaller look.

He has done his chances of joining the Cavaliers no harm, making a name for himself with some exceptional play. He has gotten better with each game, and it all came to a peak earlier today, when the rising gun helped his side make the championship game with an overtime win against the Brooklyn Nets.

In the three-point triumph, Travers posted numbers of 11 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, one steal and four blocks in a towering all-around display. His value to the team has become evident during their Summer League play, and the 21-year-old has seemingly moved even closer to his NBA dream thanks to a terrific campaign.

The NBA Summer League championship game takes place tomorrow at 11am AEST, with Travers’ Cavaliers set to take on the Houston Rockets in the deciding matchup.
