Edmanson edges further with Broncos

DURING her junior season with the Santa Clara Broncos in the NCAAW, Aussie Lara Edmanson delivered her strongest campaign to date.

She joined the Broncos back in 2020, and throughout her first three years with the team, the guard has shown gradual progression that has been rewarded with a constant increase in court time.

During the 2022/23 NCAAW season, she continued to reward Santa Clara’s coaching staff for the boost in minutes with career-best numbers.

A crafty guard who can create her own shot or finish off some strong passing from her team, Edmanson was at her damaging best for the Broncos across her 32 appearances.

She has an elite sporting background that is not exclusive to basketball, having suited up for the Oakleigh Chargers in the Coates Talent League Girls for a handful of games back in 2020. However, she chose to pursue a career in basketball, and headed over to join the Broncos.

Edmanson was forced to bide her time on the bench for much of her freshman and sophomore campaigns, but showed strong scoring glimpses during her limited court time.

She was rewarded for her wait with a serious boost in opportunity for the 2022/23 season, averaging 26 minutes per game, sliding into a lineup with the starters smoothly, given her constant scoring ability.

Edmanson averaged double-digits for the first time during her collegiate career, posting 10.6 points per game. It was nearly four points more than her sophomore campaign, and was a perfect demonstration of what she is capable of.

The Melbourne native shot 55 per cent from the field, which is quite similar to last year, with most of her makes coming from inside the arc.

Although she was attempting to stretch her range a bit more, she struggled to get some consistency from behind the arc. She made just eight three-pointers on 48 attempts, and will be eager to improve her efficiency in this domain during her senior campaign.

Edmanson showcased her ceiling on multiple occasions, but particularly in the game against the Toreros. Although the Broncos fell short in that contest, the Aussie guard performed strongly with 23 points on 9/11 shooting from the field. Expect a few more performances of that calibre during her senior campaign.

It was a breakout year for Edmanson, who showcased what she is capable of when it comes to scoring the ball. Her increase in opportunity should continue into her senior season later in 2023, and she should become one of the team’s most reliable offensive players.
