Elliott’s excellent start giving Joondalup the jump

YOUNG gun Ethan Elliott is enjoying a tremendous start to the 2025 NBL1 West Men’s season, delivering another strong performance for the Joondalup Wolves in their win over the East Perth Eagles over the weekend.

The Wolves have started the season strong, winning three of five games to start the year and most importantly, looking extremely tough to stop in their wins. Although the Eagles have not been performing as strongly, Joondalup could not take the opposition too lightly if it wanted to remain in the hunt for top spot in the standings.

It was an extremely tight affair, with neither side able to really break away and get on a run offensively. Given the close nature of the game, it was fitting that the game went to overtime after Joey Baker was fouled on a three-point attempt with a second on the clock, making all of his free throws to force an extra period. Overtime was one-way traffic, with the Wolves completely owning the period to storm home to a 28-18 win.

Despite being one of the youngest players on the court, Elliott was arguably the most impressive, stuffing the stat sheet with a balanced performance to continue his red-hot start to the season.

Ethan Elliott – 27 points, five rebounds, five assists

Twenty-year-old Elliott is having a tremendous start to his NBL1 season, currently averaging 25 points, five rebounds and five assists over the first few rounds and delivering another massive outing in the win over the Eagles.

The Wolves were thrilled to retain his services over the offseason, and he is rewarding the team for showing faith with a breakout campaign and demonstrating why many believe he has a future in the NBL.

He had an excellent start to the game, making an impact scoring the ball inside the paint and finishing despite tough defence from the opposition. Elliott could not be stopped on the drive, and used his speed and body to avoid the defence, with a highlight coming in the form of a nice and-one through contact.

At the end of the first quarter, the youngster already had 11 points to his name, and was the dominant player on the floor, which was impressive given the amount of experience other players had on him.

As the game rolled on, Elliott looked to get his teammates involved, driving into the paint and instead of finishing at the cup, he dished out to his teammates either cutting into the hoop or holding their depth on the perimeter.

In overtime, he showed tremendous composure, particularly at the charity stripe, where he went a perfect 4/4 in the bonus period with the game on the line to ice the result in calm and collected fashion.

He finished the contest with 25 points on 9/16 shooting from the field to go with his five rebounds and five assists in another strong showing from the youngster, and if he keeps up performances of this calibre, NBL teams may come knocking.
