Ellis excels as USC tames Buffaloes

THE USC Trojans cruised to a comfortable 19-point triumph over the Colorado Buffaloes on Friday afternoon, led by an excellent offensive performance from guard Boogie Ellis.

The Trojans came into the match in excellent form, with 19 wins and eight losses next to their name, while Buffaloes have been dangerously close to breaking even this season, unable to get any winning momentum rolling. This form discrepancy ended up being reflective of how the match panned out, with the Trojans better across both halves.

The Trojans rallied behind an outstanding scoring performance from Ellis, who was the spark of the team’s offence over the course of the match. No one registered more points than the explosive guard, who put the team on his back and did not shy away from any scoring opportunities he created.

Boogie Ellis – 22 points, one rebound, two assists

Ellis was the standout performer in yet another terrific USC victory, leading the team as the number one option on the offensive end of the court.

His 22 points were the most of anyone in the match (although his teammates chimed in for some handy buckets too), and he never looked afraid of putting up a shot, regardless of the defensive coverage.

Ellis shot just below 50 per cent from the field, making seven of his 15 attempts. In terms of shot selection, there was a positive mix between inside and outside scoring, although he had more success with his shots from inside the arc, going 5/9.

From downtown, the guard shot 2/7, struggling to get his rhythm going with some close checking from the defence. However, he was still able to find the bottom of the net on a couple of attempts, ensuring his offensive momentum continued to flow.

Ellis’ willingness to attack the paint not only resulted in plenty of interior scoring, but also a fair few trips to the free throw line. The explosive guard went 5/6 from the charity stripe, punishing the opposition for sloppy defence.

Ellis was far and away the standout of the match in a game that had plenty of contributors. The Trojans matched up extremely well against the Buffaloes, thanks to Ellis’ terrific offensive performance.
