A FAMILIAR name for NBA fans, T.J. Warren put together a strong campaign in the G League throughout the 2024/25 fixture, proving a serious weapon for the Westchester Knicks in a showing that may have NBA teams interested again.
Warren was once the 14th overall selection in the 2014 NBA Draft, being picked up by the Phoenix Suns, where he steadily became a solid offensive option with the team and one of the key pieces of their roster throughout the 2010s.
In 2019, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers, and it was there where he truly made a name for himself. Warren was a standout in the 2020 ‘Bubble Season’, where the NBA was forced into a hub to continue the 2019/20 season due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
He produced the best form of his life, dropping a career-high 53 points in a win over the Philadelphia 76ers to cap off a campaign that earned him a spot on the All-Bubble First Team. Unfortunately, injuries struck at the wrong time for Warren, barely playing a game for the next two seasons and missing out on his prime.
However, he has returned to form in the G League, looking much like the player he once was throghout the 2024/25 season with the Knicks. He was a crucial cog as the Knicks won a second consecutive in-season tournament, and was one of the focal points on the offensive end.
At his best, he is a genuine three-level scorer who can find the bottom of the net off the ball or in isolation, and when he is fit and firing on the offensive end, he has proven tough to stop a lot of the time for opposition players.
He even looked a chance to get the call up to the Knicks’ NBA team after they found some room on their roster, but they opted for PJ Tucker instead, prompting Warren to depart Westchester just prior to the end of the season.
Throughout the 2024/25 season, Warren averaged 22.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.9 blocks per game, while shooting 46.4 per cent from the field, 36.4 per cent from three-point land and 88.5 per cent from the charity stripe.
His campaign showed NBA sides that he is still worthy of a deal at the top level, as demonstrated by his legaue-best offensive rating for much of the G League season. Warren has proven the ability to impact at the top level, and teams looking for a proven bench scorer may just look in his direction throughout the off-season.
