AFTER enjoying a prolonged and interrupted collegiate career, Aussie Levi Frankland saved his best for last and produced a terrific senior season.
The guard had been extremely consistent throughout his time, but took things to another level for the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters in the 2022/23 season, delivering his most productive campaign to date.
Frankland headed over to the United States back in 2017 to join the Notre Dame Falcons as a freshman, where he impressed from the get-go. He continued to improve in his sophomore season after missing the 2018/19 fixture, but it did not affect the Aussie with his numbers still rising.
He made the move to the Otters prior to the 2020/21 season, but it was cancelled due to the pandemic, further extending Frankland’s time in the college system. Once he finally suited up for Cal State Monterey Bay, it was worth the wait, with the guard putting up some solid numbers.
However, he still had plenty to give in his senior season, emerging as one of the best players on the roster and taking on a bigger role within the team. His place as a starter was truly cemented after his first season with the side and he rewarded the Otters with some excellent play.
He averaged a career-high 16.4 points in the 2022/23 season, becoming a reliable option for his side on the offensive end. He was able to score across all three levels and round out his scoring game to be an extremely tough matchup.
From the field, he shot 43.8 per cent and had a strong mix of shots to make him hard to defend. His ability to knock down the three ball was a real weapon, and although he struggled with inaccuracy in that domain at times, his shot mechanic meant that he would find the bottom of the net eventually, splashing home 48 threes on the season.
Frankland was a pillar of consistency on the offensive end for the Otters, delivering double-digit points in 24 of his 27 appearances, and showed his ceiling in the win over CS Los Angeles. In that game, he fired from behind the arc on his way to a season-high 35 points, thanks to five three-pointers on eight attempts.
After a long journey, Frankland was able to put it all together in his senior campaign, becoming one of the standout Aussies for the season with an emphatic showing.
