Jets aim to soar past contender in massive matchup
IN the matchup of the round for this weekend’s Big V Men’s action, Wyndham will be looking to upset the ladder-leading Sunbury Jets when the two sides lock horns at Eagle Stadium on Saturday night.
The Jets have been the best side in the competition to date, but face their most worthy opposition in Wyndham, who is just a few wins behind in second place. With both teams producing some excellent work on both ends of the court throughout the fixture, it is set to be the most anticipated game of the weekend.
Wyndham vs. Sunbury Jets
Saturday, July 9 @ 8:30pm
Eagle Stadium
Wyndham has been one of the best sides throughout the 2022 season, winning 13 of their 16 games so far. With the ability to post triple-digits on any given day, the home side have certainly shown the ability to win it all this year, but one side still stands in their way. If they can take down the Jets on Saturday night, it will further strengthen their credentials. However, it will need to be a much better showing than what they produced in the loss to Hume last weekend. They allowed the Broncos to score over 110 points, and while they managed over 100 themselves, it was not enough.
Coming up against a rampant Sunbury side, Wyndham’s defensive work will need to lift in this area if they are to get the job done. A win would see the gap to first spot closed to just two wins, keeping themselves a mathematical possibility of climbing to the head of the table by the end of the home and away fixture, but a loss would erase this opportunity. Kavione Green was excellent despite the final result last weekend, producing a game-high 35 points and almost getting Wyndham over the line, and will likely be amongst the top scorers for the side again on Saturday.
The Jets have been the strongest team in their 2022 campaign, losing just one of their 17 outings and sitting well ahead of the rest of the pack at the top of the ladder. While that position looks extremely favourable, a loss against Wyndham would open the door for their opponents to potentially dethrone them by season’s end, so there is still a bit to play for here. Despite these possibilities, the Jets will still be favourites coming in given how dominant they have been for the entirety of the season, particularly on the offensive end. Last round, all five of their starters scored 13 points or more, showcasing the fact that Sunbury does not rely on one individual to get them over the line. If a similar number of contributors pop up again on Saturday night, they will be tough to stop.
