Jones steers Stockton to G League title

THE STOCKTON Kings have defeated the Osceola Magic by eight points in game three of the finals to claim the 2024/25 G League Championship earlier today, with two-way player Isaac Jones playing a crucial role.

The Kings were on the brink of elimination after the first match of the best-of-three series, with the Magic leading 1-0 heading to Stockton, but the home side forced game three in a high-scoring affair earlier in the week. It was a fitting finale to an exciting G League fixture, with the two best sides set to lock horns at Silver Spurs Arena for the ultimate prize.

Playing the decider at home, the Magic were in the box seat for much of the match, having built a solid lead from the first quarter onwards, and held a nine-point buffer heading into the fourth term. However, with their season on the line, the Kings produced one of their best quarters of the season, outscoring Osceola 45-28 in the final frame to storm home and remarkably overrun the home side to take out the championship in barnstorming fashion.

It was an excellent team performance from the Kings for the second game in a row, with the Magic brought undone by a quiet performance from Mac McClung, who struggled, shooting 4/21 from the field for just 11 points.

On the other hand, Stockton had plenty of contributors, with six players scoring in double-digits and four players registering 19 points or more. As expected, point guard Mason Jones was at the forefront with 19 points and 13 assists, while Dexter Dennis led all comers with 23 points.

However, it was the performance of two-way player Jones that proved the most instrumental for the Kings, with the forward producing one of the finest performances of his career on the big stage and helping his team claim the championship.

Coming off the bench, the 24-year-old delivered a huge double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds and stepped up for some big moments for Stockton. Although there were plenty of contributors, Jones came alive in the final match of the season, and was not fazed by the circumstances of the match, playing well under bright lights.

Although many of the bigger names in the match struggled with efficiency, Jones made every post a winner in game three, shooting 8/11 from the field, doing the majority of his work in the low block and excelling in pick and rolls. His timing and touch were as good as ever, and the opposition defence had no answer for his inside scoring.

The Kings have now claimed the ultimate prize, with Jones playing a big role in that, producing a performance that may go a long way in securing a place on the Sacramento Kings at NBA level next season.
