Kings look to deliver knockout blow in Championship Series

THE SYDNEY Kings have the opportunity to take out the 2025/26 National Basketball League (NBL) title tonight when they face off against the Adelaide 36ers in game four of the Championship Series in South Australia.

The Kings took a 2-1 series lead in game three in Sydney on Sunday afternoon, and have moved within one win of claiming the ultimate prize in the best-of-three series. There has been plenty of drama and spice within the series, with the first three games delivering individual battles, off-court confrontations and buzzer-beating game-winners.

Now, the action moves to Adelaide where the Sixers got the job done in game two, and will be fighting to keep their season alive, while the Kings have the opportunity to wrap up proceedings and lift the trophy on Wednesday night.

The Sixers managed to get on the board with a dramatic win over the Kings at home in game two, getting the job done on the final buzzer to tie the series. However, they fell behind after being blown away in the final quarter of the third match, and are now in danger of letting the series slip if they cannot bounce back tonight.

Although Adelaide did not get the job done on Sunday, it still showed plenty, particularly in the first quarter where the Sixers had multiple offensive contributors, which has been an issue at times. If they can continue to get scoring production from several sources, they are more than capable of posting a winning score, particularly at home.

The performance of Bryce Cotton is undeniably a massive factor within the game, given the six-time MVP’s potential to rip a game open. His scoring was halted in game three, and he was prone to turning the ball over, so watch for the superstar to bounce back with his back against the wall and the season on the line.

Overcoming a heartbreaking loss on the road a couple of days prior, the Kings were able to re-establish their ascendancy within the series with a 13-point win at Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon, dominating the final term to take control of proceedings and move within one win of the 2025/26 championship.

The Kings showed plenty of resilience when Adelaide jumped out to an early lead in that match, and will be looking to carry that mental toughness into tonight’s encounter in enemy territory. Sydney came devastatingly close to winning in Adelaide just five days ago, and with the stakes at maximum level, there is everything to play for.

In a crucial win in the context of the series, Kendric Davis delivered the best performance of his career against the Kings and his biggest rival in Cotton, dropping 34 points and 15 assists with zero turnovers in a remarkable display of efficiency. If he can produce something similar tonight, it is hard to see Sydney not wrapping up the series.
