PERTH Lynx continued their good run of form last night, beating theSouthside Flyers to extend their winning run to three in a row thanks to an 85-78 victory.

The first quarter was a very tight affair. Both sides went toe to toes and the margin never got out to more than four points. At the quarter time buzzer rang out, both sides were locked dead even at 21 apiece.

The second quarter was just as tight, but the margin managed to get out to six in favour of Lynx about three minutes into the term. The Flyers were able to real it in though and by the time the major break rolled around it was the Flyers who took a two point lead into the break.

At the start of the third term, it only took the Lynx 10 seconds to tie the score back up again. It then took another minute for either side to score, and it was the Lynx who extended their margin.

Although the Flyers came back at the Lynx and narrowed the margin a number of times, Perth were always able to run back down the court, score and then maintain a lead. It was close again throughout the term, and by the time both sides turned from home, the margin was two points in favour of the Lynx.

The final term was where the Lynx were finally able to extend their margin and take the win. The Flyers had got the margin back down to two with only a minute and a half left, but then the Lynx were able to pile on the scoreboard pressure and take the win 85-78.

For the Lynx, Marina Mabrey was once again top scorer, this time with 22 points, as well as five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jackie Young (19 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals), Darcee Garbin (16 points) and Sami Whitcomb (16) all hit double-figure points. Meanwhile for the Flyers, it was Kate Gaze who top scored with 16, while Abby Bishop recorded a huge double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds. Sara Blicavs (14 points, six rebounds) and Kristy Wallace (14 points, four assists and three rebounds) were also prolific.

Many of the final stats were very close between the two sides. Perth’s field goal percentage was 44 per cent compared to the Flyers’ 42 per cent.

The Lynx also won the two points made percentage (51 to 47 per cent) and three-point percentage (34 to 32 per cent). The Flyers did win the free throw percentage count (80 to 58 per cent), the rebound count (45-41) and the assist count (21-16).

Neither side has to wait too long to get back on the court. The Lynx are back on court tomorrow against the Spirit, while the Flyers travel to Sydney to face the Flames on Sunday.
