Mazlin makes his mark in cross-town clash

THE final round of the National Basketball League (NBL)1 North Men’s competition took place over the weekend, and Boston Mazlin led the Gold Coast Rollers to victory over the North Gold Coast Seahawks with a big double-double.

With finals just around the corner, the Rollers were unfortunately going to miss out on the finals, and faced off against the bottom-placed Seahawks, who have found the going tough in season 2024. The match offered both sides the opportunity to finish their respective campaigns on a high.

The Rollers established their dominance early, posting 29 points in the first quarter to lead by 13 points at the opening change. North Gold Coast did a reasonable job at stopping the bleeding as the game rolled on, but it could not produce a run as powerful, and ended up falling by 16 points.

Mazlin saved his best performance for last, towering over the opposition and proving too much to contain for the Seahawks.

Boston Mazlin – 30 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, one steal, two blocks

In Saturday night’s clash at Carrara Stadium, Mazlin was the star of the show with a big double-double that carried plenty of impact in the game overall.

Although the two sides were separated by a dominant first quarter from the home team, Mazlin’s efforts were consistent across all four quarters, and helped keep Gold Coast in front when the opposition evened up the output.

He finished with a game-high 30 points on 12/20 shooting from the field. Mazlin demonstrated his abilities to score at all three levels. The guard did his best work inside the arc, with nine makes on 11 attempts, although he did stretch the floor with a trio of triples, and was able to shoot from long range off the dribble.

On the glass, he crashed the boards with intent, proving the best defensive rebounder in the game, despite not being the tallest. Nine of his 10 rebounds came after a Seahawks miss, and he was expert at starting the next possession for the Rollers.

In his best performance of the year, Mazlin finished the fixture in style and was a reliable performer on the scoring and rebounding fronts.
