McKinnon and Wyndham set to face off again

TWO of the top three teams in the Big V Women’s Basketball competition are set to lock horns in Roudn 15, when McKinnon travels to Eagle Stadium to take on Wyndham on Saturday night, in what is shaping up to be a reasonably important clash for the shape of the ladder.

Coming into the clash, the home side are currently sitting pretty at the top of the table, with the best record in the competition, while their opposition are just a few wins behind and sit in third spot. Both sides have been among the highest scoring teams on a weekly basis, so there is every chance that a combined 200 points or more could be scored here.

The two sides will each have a bit on the line, given how close the standings are at the pointy end of the fixture. With each side having the potential to drop down a spot depending on other results, it should be a hard-fought clash.

Wyndham has been the best side in the competition for essentially the entirety of the 2022 fixture, and sit at the head of the table as we head into the conclusion of the season. Its record of 14 wins and three losses is the best in the league, and the hosts will be looking to keep it that way at the end of Round 15. Not many sides have been able to get the better of them,, but they face some worthy competition in the form of McKinnon. However, Wyndham will still be favourites coming in, and for good reason, given they are fresh off a 36-point triumph over Chelsea. Scoring machine Dyani Ananiev will look to be amongst the best again, despite heavy defensive attention on a weekly basis.

McKinnon has done enough to station itself inside the top four, with a record of 11 wins and six losses good enough for third spot in the standings. There is a lot to like about the way they go about it, particularly on the defensive end of the court, with their ability to hold the opposition to lower scores a real highlight amongst the competition. However, they will have their hands full with a high-scoring Wyndham outfit, but it should prove an enthralling battle. Last round, three players scored over 11 points in what was a well-balanced scoring performance. They will need something similar again if they are to take down the ladder-leaders.
