McKinnon looking to halt Wyndham’s run
HOW good is it seeing blockbuster matchups so early in the season? The Big V Men’s Championship competition is gearing up for Round 5 of action over the weekend, after a break over the Easter period. It has been a strong start to the league’s 2022 season, with plenty to take out of the first few weeks of play. With big outings at both a team and individual level, there have been a number of highlights in the opening four rounds.
One of the biggest storylines to start the year has been the terrific start that Wyndham has gotten off to, with six wins coming from six outings, beginning a championship run in perfect fashion. Most of these have come in convincing fashion too, and they are the current benchmark of the competition. Round 5 marks a big matchup, with the second placed McKinnon set to try and break their opponent’s six game winning streak, in what is the most anticipated clash we have seen so far throughout the season.
Wyndham vs McKinnon
Saturday, April 23 @ 8:30pm
Eagle Stadium
In a blockbuster clash, Wyndham will look to keep its unbeaten run going when it goes head to head with an also impressivr McKinnon side at Eagle Stadium on Saturday night. It will be a game between the two strongest performing sides to start the season 2022, and while it is still early days, could very well be a preview of the finals later in the year if form remains.
Wyndham has been simply unstoppable to kickstart the year, with a 6-0 record seeing them sit comfortably at the top of the standings. It has been largely set up by some excellent work on both ends of the court, with the side able to find the winning formula offensively and defensively. Their ability to share the ball and not rely on one particular scorer has been a major factor in their strong start to the season, and to top it all off, they have been magnificent at not allowing the opposition to generate any offensive rhythm. Round Four saw two wins by over 20 points, so the home side will be full of confidence, especially if Maurice Howard can back up his 25-point showing against Sunbury.
McKinnon has not been far behind, with four wins and one loss after five games resulting in a second place standing after four rounds. Facing a tough task on Saturday night, the visiting side will need to produce their best if they are to slow down a red-hot Wyndham side. However, their best has proven to be enough on a number of ocassions in 2022, and they will come into the clash fresh off a 25-point victory, a result that was well-led by James Malvaso and Anthony Kimble combining for 41 points. If the duo can produce something similar against Wyndham, an upset may be on the cards.
