IN the second round of the Melbourne United Victorian Junior Basketball League (MUVJBL) Under 16 Girls competition, we see a top-of-the-table clash and a number of games that will leave teams on a balanced ledger of wins and losses by Saturday morning.
Ashe Pool:
Waverley Falcons (3rd, 1-0) vs. Kilsyth Cobras (9th, 0-1)
Dandenong Rangers (2nd, 1-0) vs. Diamond Valley Eagles (1st, 1-0)
Hawthorn Magic (4th, 1-0) vs. Ballarat Rush (5th, 1-0)
Sunbury Jets (10th, 0-1) vs. Keilor Thunder (7th, 0-1)
Bellarine Storm (6th, 0-1) vs. Ringwood Hawks (8th, 0-1)
One round in and there is already a top-of-the-table clash between first and second with Diamond Valley Eagles travelling to face Dandenong Rangers. Both sides had comfortable wins in Round 1, with Diamond Valley recording a 29-point victory over Sunbury, while the Rangers posted a 14-point win over Kilsyth. Myah Healey was the dominant scorer for the Rangers with 23 points last week, while Sophie Burrows finished with 17 for the Eagles. Another top five clash between fourth placed Hawthorn Magic and fifth placed Ballarat Rush means at least two of the five unbeaten sides will leave round two without another victory. Magic shooter, Rianna Thiele posted 13 points last round to be their top scorer, while Milly Simpson scored 13 in the Rush’s win.
In the other clashes for Ashe Pool, third placed Waverley Falcons will look to make it two consecutive wins with a home victory over Kilsyth Cobras, while bottom-placed Sunbury Jets face seventh placed Keilor Thunder, and mid-table side, Bellarine Storm meets Ringwood Hawks as both sides gun for their first win.

Bendigo Braves (2nd, 1-0) vs. Eltham Wildcats (10th, 0-1)
Melbourne Tigers (6th, 0-1) vs. Altona Gators (9th, 0-1)
Nunawading Spectres (4th, 1-0) vs. Frankston Blues (8th, 0-1)
Knox Raiders (1st, 1-0) vs. Southern Peninsula Sharks (6th, 0-1)
Sandringham Sabres (3rd, 1-0) vs. Bulleen Boomers (4th, 1-0)
In the Watson pool, the clear standout game looks to be Sandringham Sabres hosting Bulleen Boomers in a third versus fourth clash. Both sides had strong wins in the opening round, and will look to make it two on the trot. Jemima O’Toole finished Round 1 with a team-high 13 points, while Boomer, Aleisha Cadee posted up 12. Top-of-the-table Knox Raiders host Southern Peninsula Sharks who narrowly went down in Round 1 in another exciting game, with Raiders’ shooter, Jaida Reid‘s 20 points the second most of anyone in Watson Pool. For the Sharks, Chantelle James finished with 17, teaming well with Bella Breen (15).
In other games, second placed Bendigo Braves will take on cellar dwellers, Eltham Wildcats; Melbourne Tigers host ninth placed Altona Gators with both sides searching for their first win, while eighth placed Frankston Blues travel to face Nunawading Spectres.
